And we're not talking about beef. It's your legs where it will all happen 🥩. Your next adrenaline rush is in a department well-known to French soccer players: the 42. Fortunately for everyone, we're talking triathlon, not soccer 🏊.
No chasing a ball ⚽️ here, we run, cycle, and swim at our own pace! If you're looking for a genuine sports challenge, the Loire could be just the ticket. With several events mainly in the months of May and June, the water will be the perfect temperature for a relaxing dip before a few kilometers of jogging 🏃. The Monts du Forez and the meanders of the river that gives the department its name have plenty of surprises 🎁 in store. You'll discover a playground that's as technical as it is stunning. But the real advantage: it's the after-race 😂. Culinary-wise, the region won't disappoint: you'll always find a slice of pompe aux pommes or a piece of Fourme de Montbrison to get back on your feet 🥧. So, whether you're a young gone ready to compete (as our dear neighbors from Lyon would say) or a fan of the triple effort, prepare yourself for a truly intense experience 👟.
Participating in a Ligérien race is like traveling back in time, but without the old-time outfits (although you can obviously show up in costume at the starting line 🥸). You'll dive into a rich history, stretching from the Manufacture d'Armes factories in Saint-Étienne to the medieval castles overlooking the Gorges de la Loire 🏰. By the way, if you don't quite understand the locals, don't worry, it's probably because they're using their own dialect: "gaga stéphanois" 🗣️. And even though the name might suggest a childish language, don't be fooled, it's an old local dialect that has nothing to do with premature babbling ❌. To impress other competitors and show your knowledge of the area, don't hesitate to admire and rave about the lovely local barabans and babets 🌲. But you can also enjoy the remnants of previous civilizations, like the Château de la Roche, this structure sitting on the water that seems straight out of a swashbuckling film ⚔️.
The Loire is large, beautiful, and natural, making it the ideal place for a first exploration of the sport. Along your route, you'll pass from the continental climate of the summits of Pilat to the mildness of the Forez plains 🌳. For those who love running outdoors, with the sound of the wind and nature, the technical trails and woodlands are just waiting for your strides. It's also on these lands that Arthur Forissier, world champion in Cross Triathlon (Xterra), grew up, originating from Saint-Étienne 🏆. He honed the Pilat trails to become one of the world's best, proving that the Ligérien elevation is the best school to forge a champion ⛰️. In the ultra-trail category, Baptiste Chassagne also demonstrated what Ligérien training enables 🤪.
Now, if you've decided to grab your race bib, let us introduce you to two flagship events in the region. The first is the Triathlon of the Gorges of the Loire, starting from the nautical base of Saint-Victor-sur-Loire. This medieval village probably hosts the region's most emblematic race 🤩. With its demanding routes and stunning views over the Lake Grangent, the event has quickly made a name for itself in the French triathlon scene 🇫🇷. And as if that weren't convincing enough, the event's patron is none other than the former world champion, European champion, and French champion in cross triathlon, previously mentioned, Mr. Arthur Forissier 👏. The guy has collected all the titles he could, so if he decided to be the patron of this particular triathlon, there's no doubt it must be worth it 😳. Plus, you have the choice between an M format or an S format. If you're not available in May: "don't worry, be happy". In June, head to the northern part of the department for the famous Triathlon of Roanne-Villerest, where you can swim in the calm waters of the lake before tackling a forest run and the hilly roads of the Roannais 🚴. It's the perfect opportunity to discover charming villages like Saint-Jean-Saint-Maurice-sur-Loire (triple word score! 🀄️), Le Crozet, or even Perreux! And for the occasion, the organizers have prepared routes ranging from XS format to M format.
So, after all this information, it's up to you to decide if you're more about sharpening your records or enjoying the view of the mountains 🏔️. The Loire offers a perfect blend of sporting challenge and cultural richness 📚, all sprinkled with bistronomy that will even make you forget the most painful sores 🥵. Between sessions, don't forget to taste the chocolates from Pralus in Roanne, a local specialty worth more than all the energy gels in the world! ⚡️ To extend your holiday, also take a detour through the beautiful city of Lyon: typical bouchons and culinary specialties will give you unforgettable memories of the region! 🍽️ All that's left is to choose your challenge according to your fitness level and confirm your registration to experience an extraordinary human and sporting adventure 🏁.
