Are you ready for a heroic adventure in the heart of Hamburg? 🤩 The Blankenese Hero Run awaits you in the district of Blankenese, known for the Süllberg towering above the houses and the Unterfeuer Lighthouse 🗼. It's a road race, also known as the Blankenese Hero Run, offering the refreshing riverside experience 💦. Yes, Hamburg is a city built on the banks of the Elbe 🏞️, the grand river that flows through Bohemia. To get straight to the point: you're probably wondering what this race has to offer 🏃♂️. If you're visiting Germany 🇩🇪, you have 5 events to choose from: a 6.5 km run where youth and kids can feel like adults! 👧 You’ll run almost 2.5 km along the riverbanks! For a similar distance but more challenging, you can join the 6.8 km run! 🤯 Beware, this distance is fondly referred to as the "Mountain Goat"! 🐐 If you love the burning in your calves, this is your dream race! You could also tackle the 11 km (PS: rumor has it that this is the perfect format for hill sprints)! 💪 The Blankenese Hero Run offers not one but two 21.1 km routes! Half-marathon lovers will rejoice 🤪, but how does one choose! Well, those who prefer a more relaxed pace should opt for the "sutsche" 😇 format, while those eager to shine on hills and surprise climbs can sign up for the "derbe" format 🤠.
Now that we've covered the main topic, let's talk about Hamburg! 🏙️ If you haven't had enough greenery 🌱 (even though the courses run through many parks), you can always head downtown to stroll through the iconic Planten un Blomen Park: a magnificent botanical garden! 🌷 If you're more into culture and wish to add an educational touch to your trip 📚, we recommend visiting the historic Speicherstadt district 📰. Explore the cobblestone streets and historic warehouses of this UNESCO World Heritage Site 🌆. If you want to blend in and shed your tourist identity, the Hamburg Fish Market🐠 is the heart of the city's identity!🐟 Dive into the vibrant atmosphere of this traditional market where you can taste local specialties. We highly recommend the lobster soup 🦐, an iconic Hamburg dish! Need a break? We understand - the season is perfect for a short getaway to the Elbe Beach 🏖️, where the sun ☀️ and sea breeze will speed up your recovery! 👊
Take part in the Blankenese Hero Run and turn your race into a true epic! 🎉
The first third of the route up to Hirschpark is similar to the Sutsche Half-Marathon 👯♂️. From there, the course becomes more winding and demands greater physical fitness with inclines, especially the Polterberg – hence the name Derbe. The last section stretches less towards the west compared to the Sutsche Half-Marathon but circles around Table Mountain by way of Falkenstein. As with all distances, the ultimate destination is the Blankenese weekly market 🕺.
Start here as well: the Mühlenberg Lighthouse. The first third of the route largely follows the same path as the "Elb-Elfer," before a 1 km "preview" of the famous Blankenese staircase district beckons you 🏃♀️. Right after, maritime landscapes await again: 5 km along the Elbe beach, passing the Falkensteiner and Rissener shores, and the Rissen lighthouses. There's a turnaround at the border with Schleswig-Holstein. The return loop takes you through the Wittenberger Heide and the Tinsdaler Kirchenweg towards the finish line at the weekly market square in Blankenese 🏡.
The 11 km route also starts at the Mühlenberg Lighthouse and is slightly longer than the beginner's route along the Elbe towards Teufelsbrück. There, the course takes a "northern loop" through Wesselhoeftpark and Westerpark. Heading back towards the Elbe, we pass through Nienstedten, go by the International Tribunal for the Law of the Sea and continue along the paved Elbchaussee through the northern Hirschpark. After a winding path through Baurspark🏝️, it's not far to the finish line at the Blankenese weekly market square 🏁.
After starting at the Mühlenberg lighthouse 🗼, the route initially stretches 2.3 km along the picturesque banks of the Elbe towards Teufelsbrück. The trail then returns along the paved Elbchaussee to Hirschpark, traversing Blankenese and Hessepark 🏡. The destination is the weekly market square in Blankenese.
