One gone, two bell towers, three valleys… sunshine! ☀️
Call Guignol! Dardilly is launching the very first edition of the "Dardi'Trail" 🎉. The town is located about ten kilometers northwest of Lyon. It overlooks the hills of the Lyon Metropolis, in the Rhône department, in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes 📍. At the end of October, the thermometer generally hovers around 10°C: chilly at the start line, ideal once the engine is warm ❄️. Covered in dead leaves 🍂, the dampest sections could turn your shoes into platform soles 🥾. So go for a pair with good lugs for this fixture in the October trail calendar.
Starts and finishes take place on the esplanade of the Salle de l'Aqueduc, the town’s cultural hub. Three trail loops, three names that set the tone. The "Dardi'Trail des 3 Vallons" serves up 25 km with 600 mD+ through the valleys carved by the streams of the Beffe, the Planches and the Serres 💦. Between undergrowth, technical sections and leg-breaking accelerations, your quads won’t have time to get bored 🥵. More runnable without being a stroll, the "Dardi'Trail des 2 Églises" (15 km, 400 mD+) tips its hat to the neo-Roman bell towers of the Bourg and Saint-Claude in Barriot ⛪. The "Dardi'Trail du Fort du Paillet" offers 7.5 km with little elevation, open to joëlettes as well as walkers. Between two surges, you’ll zigzag from the wooded Beffe area to the paths of the Arboretum 🪴, right up to the edges of the Fort du Paillet. In 140 years, this fort built to protect Lyon has never been attacked: your final sprint will make you its very first assailant 😏. On a clear day, the heights reveal the Monts d'Or, and even the Alps 🏔️.
At the controls of this first edition is a winning duo: the Dardilly town hall and the Athletic Club du Lyonnais, which brings together more than 900 members. Their slogan? Leave no one by the wayside 🫵. Up to ten joëlettes will therefore set off on the 7.5 km, carried by the associations Odynéo and L'Akademy des Héros 🤝. As for the Nordic walkers, they have their own starts on the "Dardi'Trail du Fort du Paillet" and the "Dardi'Trail des 2 Églises" races, without worrying about the clock ⏱️. A nod to companies in the Techlid technopole 😉, the corporate challenge brings together four runners on the 15 km or the 25 km, with rankings based on the combined times. This Sunday, the Minimoys get a 2 km loop around the Aqueduct 🎈. Here, the final sprint rarely ends on the line, but rather in the arms of happy parents 🥰.
Once you’ve crossed the line, it’s time for the third half, Lyon-style 🦁. Head to a bouchon lyonnais, where quenelles, cervelle de canut and praline tart reload heavy legs better than a gel 😋. Léon Daudet claimed that Lyon is watered by three rivers: the Rhône, the Saône, and Beaujolais 🍷. The third “river” will soon be flowing freely: Beaujolais nouveau arrives less than a month after the race 🏃. For a green recovery, the Lacroix-Laval Park spreads its 115 hectares in the neighboring town of Marcy-l'Étoile.
One fort to take, two churches to salute, three valleys to tame: be bold, be a Dardi’trail runner 🏁!
A word from the organizer:
"The DARDI’TRAIL was born from a shared desire between the Athletic Club Dardilly and the Municipality of Dardilly to create a unifying sporting event that showcases the natural, heritage and human riches of our town. This project is part of the sporting momentum driven in recent years in Dardilly, notably with the development and modernization of sports facilities. It reflects a shared ambition: to offer residents and visitors a friendly, accessible rendezvous rooted in the local area. Through its routes that take in the valleys, paths and emblematic sites of the town, the DARDI’TRAIL aims to showcase Dardilly in a different way, while encouraging sports participation and togetherness."
The first to start, this format is aimed at experienced trail runners looking for a challenge ⛰️. Demanding, it strings together elevation gain and technical sections along the gullies carved by the streams of the Beffe, the Planches and Serres. Undergrowth, surges and roots set the pace for the morning up to the aid station at the 16th km 🔥. Since the time barrier is set at 12 p.m. when you leave it, you’ll need to complete this first section in about 3 hours 🕛. The race is open from the Espoir category, individually or in a company challenge.
Start of the runners, followed by the non-timed Nordic walking on the same distance. An intermediate format, this trail doesn’t present any major technical difficulty, but its 400 mD+ still put your calves to work 🦵. Its name pays tribute to the commune’s two neo-Romanesque bell towers: Saint-Jean-Marie-Vianney in Le Bourg and Saint-Claude in Le Barriot 🕍. Solid and liquid refreshments await you around the 8th km, right at halfway. In your pockets: a survival blanket, your own cup, and a clearly visible bib. You run solo or in a four-person company challenge, from the Junior category onwards.
Kick-off on the esplanade of the Aqueduct for the gentlest loop of the "Dardi'Trail" 🚶. Not much elevation gain on the menu: this non-timed discovery route welcomes beginners, Nordic walkers, and up to ten joëlette teams. Poles are allowed, so you can move at your own pace without pressure 🌿. Along the way, don’t forget to say hello to Fort du Paillet. No intermediate refreshment station; a full buffet awaits you at the finish line 🍃. The event is open from the Cadet category onwards.
