If all you know of Normandy is the Mont St-Michel and the Calvados ๐ท (not the department ๐), this race will do you the world of good ๐. We're not saying you're wrong, but Ver-sur-Mer, a small coastal town located a few kilometers from when Caen, is much more than that ๐. Don't worry, we'll explain: โฌ๏ธ
Here in April, we're not talking about fish, but rather about sports practice ๐. The La Veroise association organizes its own trail to introduce the general public to local marvels โจ, and it's not a joke ๐. Between sea and countryside, you'll wander from town to town ๐๏ธ and the landscapes will be a sight to behold ๐คฉ. Indeed, these routes around Ver-sur-Mer offer unique viewpoints that will allow you to discover a part of the vast region that is Normandy. You won't discover everything in one race, but it will give you a good taste ๐ฅฐ.
Regarding distances, the main course ๐ก is a 14 km path. Halfway between a trail and a road race, you can find your happiness regardless of your runner profile ๐ฝ. Without overly technical passages, you'll be immersed in Norman nature and can let yourself drift with the wind ๐. You'll have an incredible view of the entire coastline! ๐คฉ We warn you in advance: upon arriving at the British Memorial in Ver-sur-Mer, you may be completely absorbed by the view of the sea and the surrounding fields. Certainly, the setting makes you want to stop, but don't forget you have a goal: finish this race! If you turn sea-green with fear ๐ฐ at the thought of embarking on a race longer than 10 km: don't stress, take a deep breath ๐จ. The organizers have thought of everyone ๐ซ. You can opt for the 7 km, in either the walk or run version. Just like the classic Veroise, the course will guide you through the landscapes of the North for your greatest joy ๐ฅน. And no matter the race, there's no need to bring walking sticks: no elevation on the horizon! ๐
You'll be able to operate at full throttle and stride without difficulty ๐. Need another good reason to sign up? Alright, we'll slip one in here: โฌ1 per race number sold is donated to coastal protection. Thus, you contribute to the preservation of this unique natural setting. Congratulations, champion! ๐ช
After the effort, comes comfort ๐ด. In William of Normandy's land, you can rediscover a natural heritage and a cultural heritage ๐ that engage in an endless battle to determine which is more extensive ๐ฅ. The Cliffs of รtretat, the D-Day beaches ๐ดโโ ๏ธ, and the Bay of Mont-Saint-Michel are perfect examples of this rivalry. If you prefer urban visits ๐๏ธ, the cities of Rouen, Le Havre, or Deauville will be perfect for you ๐งฑ. Between history and leisure activities, you'll have plenty to do. However, if partying is the determining factor ๐, you can venture to Caen. You might not know, but it's the 3rd best student city in France. And where there are students, there are partygoers ๐ฅณ. Head to the Port or Rue รcuyรจre to try the best Caen bars (and test local alcohol in moderation โ ๏ธ).
We'll be waiting for you in Ver-sur-Mer ๐, for a blissful time between sea & land.
Message from the organizer:
"The places you'll pass through and the people you'll meet will introduce you to the friendliness of Ver-sur-Mer and its many magical nooks."
In 14 km, we can assure you that you'll see some scenery ๐. The first few kilometers will be along the coast. Prepare a cap ๐งข or a hat, because the wind on this side is strong and might mess up your hairstyle ๐ชฎ. Once you've reached km 5, you'll make a U-turn ๐ and head inland to tackle the rest of the race. Large fields ๐พ will flank your run, on both left and right. After passing through the small village of Meuvaines, you'll see in the distance the village of Ver-sur-Mer ๐, and you'll have only 3 km left to cover in record time before crossing the finish line ๐: exhausted but happy ๐. Once the effort is done, wait a few days and you'll be ready to set off on a new race as if nothing ever happened ๐.
This loop, shorter than the classic La Veroise, is based on the same principle as its big sister ๐ฉ: a first stage along the coast, then a turn into the lands, and a finish at Ver-sur-Mer, in front of the cheering crowd ๐คช. Remember to bring your family and your most devoted admirers ๐, their cheers ๐ฃ should make Normandy tremble!
An ideal route to discover the area subtly ๐ถ, taking the time to admire the landscapes ๐ (not like those big brute runners who live for speed ๐๏ธ and competition ๐คฆโโ๏ธ). Once the wild beasts are unleashed ๐ฏ, you can follow their pace, at your own rhythm, on a 7 km non-timed route. The ideal path to recover from your hangover Caen evening from the night before ๐.
