The Porto Half Marathon 🇵🇹, officially known as the Hyundai Meia Porto Half Marathon, has been a must-attend race in Northern Portugal for 18 years. The 2025 edition brought together over 12,500 runners 🏃 for its two events: the half marathon of 21.095 km and a mini-marathon of 5 km.
Since 2007, the half marathon has been held in mid-September, providing excellent conditions. With a mostly flat and easy course, temperatures range from 13°C to 18°C, and there's very little chance of rain 🌤️. The route starts near the Arrábida Bridge and features an out-and-back format. It takes you through numerous viewpoints and various iconic and tourist spots, running alongside the Douro River.
The event's stellar reputation is partly due to its lively atmosphere. Locals eagerly come out to cheer on the runners, creating a warm and festive ambiance. While Porto is one of Europe's oldest cities, the half marathon significantly impacts its tourism 🗺️. Although the race doesn't go through the city center, you'll get the chance to explore it on your own post-race or during the weekend.
Once the race is over, unwind in the gardens of the Crystal Palace—a perfect way to relax after a workout! 😮💨 The hospitality and kindness of the locals will encourage you to explore local eateries. Indulge in a traditional Portuguese dish, the francesinha 🥪—a delicious sandwich made with grilled bread, beef steak, smoked sausage, fresh sausage, and cheese slices. You're in for a treat! To cap off the day, why not enjoy an evening listening to traditional music, such as fado 🎤, and savor the must-try glass of port wine 🍷 (to be enjoyed responsibly) in one of the city's many wine cellars.
If you're tempted by this experience, go grab your race bib! 🎽
