If I say â 1984 â, what do you think of? The more literary among you will surely mention the novel by George Orwell⊠đ As for sports fans, this date might remind you of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympic Games! đșđž And yet, in FrĂ©jus, in the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-CĂŽte dâAzur region, another international-scale event was taking place: the first edition of the MTB race Roc DâAzur with⊠7 participants! đ
Held at the beginning of October, Roc dâAzur quickly became the worldâs leading MTB event đ”ââïž and today brings together all players in cycling and mountain biking. Indeed, there are now more than 20,000 participants lining up at the starts of the various races offered each year! For some time now, the organizers have been diversifying and also organizing trail runs and hikes to highlight this wonderful discipline đ. But here, weâre here to talk to you about the star of this event: the bike! đČ
So, the planned program is, how to put it? Pretty packed đ. We start the list straight away with the queen of endurance, a 100.6 km event. Then we cut that in half (or almost) with THE legendary MTB route, the âRoc d'Azur CICâ which is 54.9 km âš. Oh, thatâs no laughing matter as a distance, we agree. But donât panic, there are still 6 distances left! đ There are also routes of: 40.8 km, 33.5 km, 32.3 km, 32 km, 28.6 km and 8 km. Well, with that itâs hard to find a valid excuse not to choose one âïž. And honestly, we almost lied, because in reality thereâs one very last one, created just for the little ones: 1.2 km so they can do it like the grown-ups đ§.
So, ready to be amazed? 1, 2, 3âŠOpen your eyes wide, breathe deeply, youâre in the Var! đ Admire the sublime oak and pine forests đČ, the lakes and rivers đ, the vineyard plains, the coastal trails, the natural parks , and of course the Mediterranean Sea⊠đ Whatâs more, the weather here is optimal since the Var chalks up around 300 days of sunshine a year! This department is truly a runnerâs paradise! âïž No wonder the Var is the second most touristy department in France! Roc dâAzur will allow you to discover this department and its villages. Youâll discover: FrĂ©jus, an ancient Roman city with an incredible architectural heritage on the Mediterranean coast, as well as Roquebrune-sur-Argens a charming little thousand-year-old village by the water, or even Saint-RaphaĂ«l and Sainte-Maxime ! âïž
The routes are ultra varied! đłïžâđ Youâll take some charming southern trails, paths along the beach, and youâll discover magnificent little sunny Mediterranean coves! đ So you wonât see the kilometers go by, promised! Switching from the sea đ to the mountains â°ïž, without forgetting the Provençal forests⊠The variety of landscapes will make you forget the effort! Youâll also enjoy these magnificent routes to discover the Massif des Maures and the Massif de lâEstĂ©rel â°ïž, two mountain ranges with surprising landscapes characterized by limestone and red rocks, on which abrupt reliefs are drawn, giving the landscape a particular charm that wonât leave you indifferentâwe guarantee it! đ€ In addition to the sporting program, Roc dâAzur hosts each year the largest free MTB expo open to everyone đ”ââïž. It also offers many activities highlighting various disciplines in the world of cycling.
And what do we do after the race? If you donât know the Var, we suggest you go discover the Gorges du Verdon! đ Located in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, this river offers an impressive landscape created by erosion! The canyon of course benefits from exceptional biodiversity thanks to the meeting of Alpine and Mediterranean climates đ. If youâre brave, you can even go swimming, take a canoe-kayak đ¶ ride, a pedal boat đ€, or go rafting! đ In addition, if after this outing you want to discover a typical village in the Var, we recommend heading instead to the village of Bormes-Les-Mimosas, a picturesque, flower-filled Provençal village. Its coastline offers very beautiful beaches and is home to the famous Fort de BrĂ©gançon⊠a must-visit in the region!
So, ready for this ride? đ¶
â Elegant as CĂ©ladon, Agile as Scaramouche, I warn you, dear Myrmidon, that at the end of the sending-off I run! â đââïž
