The event in a few words

If I say “1984,” what do you think of? The most literary among you will surely mention the novel by George Orwell... 📚 As for the athletes, this date might remind you of the 1984 Los Angeles Olympics! 🇺🇸 However, in Fréjus, in the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region, another international event was taking place: the first edition of the mountain bike race Roc D’Azur with... 7 participants! 😉

Organized at the beginning of October, the Roc d’Azur quickly became the leading mountain bike event in the world 🚵‍♂️ and today brings together all the cycling and mountain biking stakeholders. Indeed, there are now more than 20,000 participants lining up at the start of the different races offered each year! However, recently the organizers have diversified and are also organizing trails and hikes to honor this beautiful discipline 🙏. This year, no less than 5 trail courses are offered (43 km, 32 km, 22 km, 16 km, and 5.5 km) as well as 4 walks (22 km, 13 km, 8 km, and 5 km)! 🏃‍♂️

Ready to be amazed? 1, 2, 3... Open your eyes wide, take a deep breath, you are in the Var! 😍 Admire the stunning oak and pine forests 🌲, the lakes and rivers 🏞, the wine plains, the coastal paths, the natural parks, and of course the Mediterranean Sea... 🌊 Plus, the weather here is optimal as the Var boasts approximately 300 sunny days annually! This department is decidedly a runner's paradise! ☀️ No wonder the Var is the second most tourist department in France! The Roc d’Azur will let you discover this department and its villages. You will discover: Fréjus, an ancient Roman city with an incredible architectural heritage by the Mediterranean, as well as Roquebrune-sur-Argens a charming little millennial village by the water, or even Saint-Raphaël and Sainte-Maxime! ☝️

The courses are ultra diverse! 🏳️‍🌈 You will take charming southern paths, beachside trails and discover beautiful sunny Mediterranean coves! 🏖 You won't see the miles go by, we promise! From the sea 🌅, to the mountains ⛰️, including Provençal forests... The variety of landscapes will make you forget the effort! You'll also enjoy these sumptuous courses to discover the Massif des Maures or the Estérel Massif ⛰️, two mountain ranges with amazing landscapes characterized by the presence of limestone and red rocks, outlining abrupt reliefs that give the landscape a particular charm that won't leave you indifferent, we guarantee it! 🤞 In addition to the sports program, the Roc d’Azur hosts each year the largest free MTB exhibition open to all 🚵‍♂️. It also offers numerous activities honoring various cycling disciplines.

And, what do we do after the race? If you're not familiar with the Var, we suggest discovering the Gorges du Verdon! 🌅 Located at the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, this river offers an impressive landscape created by erosion! The canyon surely benefits from exceptional biodiversity due to the convergence of Alpine and Mediterranean climates 🌊. If you're brave, you can even swim, kayak 🛶, pedal boat 🚤 or rafting! 🌊 Additionally, if after this trail you'd like to discover a typical Var village, we recommend going to Bormes-Les-Mimosas, a picturesque Provencal and flowery village. Its coastline offers very beautiful beaches and houses the famous Fort de Brégançon... a must-visit in the region!

So, ready for this stroll? 🎶

“ Elegant like Celadon, Agile like Scaramouche, I warn you, dear Mirmydon, at the end of the send-off I run! ” 🏃‍♂️
