If I say â 1984 â, what comes to mind? The more literary among you will surely think of the novel by George Orwell⊠đ As for athletes, that date might remind you of the Los Angeles Olympic Games in 1984! đșđž And yet, in FrĂ©jus, in the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-CĂŽte dâAzur region, another international-scale event was taking place: the very first edition of the MTB race Roc DâAzur with⊠7 participants! đ
Held at the beginning of October, the Roc dâAzur quickly became the worldâs leading MTB event đ”ââïž and now brings together everyone in the cycling and MTB world. Indeed, there are now more than 20,000 participants lining up at the starts of the different events each year! For some time now, the organizers have been diversifying and also putting on trail races and hikes. And today, weâre focusing on the âchillâ version of MTB: the MTB Ride ! đČ
So, the program planned is, how can we put it? Pretty packed đ. On the agenda, 31 events (yes, yes) are scheduled to satisfy as many people as possible. Among them are rides on MTB and e-MTB âĄïž. Weâre here to enjoy it! đ From Wednesday to Sunday, several rides will be offered depending on their difficulty (Green, Blue, Red, Black), plus enduro, a costume ride of 15 km and a family ride so the little ones can enjoy it with their parents too, along a specialized course đ§ of 8 km. On Wednesday you can ride 22 km or 32 km; on Thursday 28 km, 42 km or 48 km. On Friday, routes of 22 km, 30 km, 32 km and 49 km will be offered. On Saturday, itâs not over yet: you can do 22 km, 32 km, 42 km or 48 km (the latter being open only to e-MTBs). Finally, on Sunday, the grand one, the longest one: the âRando d'Azurâ over 55 km with 1,275 m of elevation gain will make your day unforgettable đ€©.
So, ready to be amazed? 1, 2, 3⊠Open your eyes wide, breathe deeply, youâre in the Var ! đ Admire the sublime oak and pine forests đČ, the lakes and rivers đ, the vineyard plains, the coastal trails, the natural parks , and of course the Mediterranean Sea⊠đ Whatâs more, the weather here is optimal, as the Var counts around 300 days of sunshine a year! This department is truly a runnerâs paradise! âïž No wonder the Var is the second most touristic department in France! The Roc dâAzur will allow you to discover this department and its towns. Youâll discover: FrĂ©jus, a former Roman city with an incredible architectural heritage on the Mediterranean coast, as well as Roquebrune-sur-Argens a charming little thousand-year-old village by the water, and also Saint-RaphaĂ«l and Sainte-Maxime ! âïž
The routes are incredibly varied! đłïžâđ Youâll take some charming southern trails, paths along the beach, and youâll discover magnificent little sun-drenched Mediterranean coves ! đ You wonât notice the miles ticking by, thatâs a promise! Moving from the sea đ to the mountains â°ïž, without forgetting the Provençal forests⊠The variety of landscapes will make you forget the effort! Youâll also take advantage of these splendid routes to discover the Maures Massif or the EstĂ©rel Massif â°ïž, two mountain ranges with striking landscapes characterized by limestone and red rocks, where steep reliefs create a distinctive charm that wonât leave you indifferentâwe guarantee it! đ€ In addition to the sporting program, the Roc dâAzur hosts each year the largest free MTB expo open to everyone đ”ââïž. It also offers many activities showcasing various disciplines in the cycling world.
And what do we do after the race? If you donât know the Var, we recommend going to discover the Verdon Gorge ! đ Located in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, this river offers an impressive landscape shaped by erosion! The canyon of course enjoys exceptional biodiversity thanks to the meeting of Alpine and Mediterranean climates đ. If youâre brave, you can even go for a swim, take a canoe-kayak đ¶ trip, a pedal boat đ€ ride, or go rafting ! đ Also, if after this outing you want to discover a typical Var village, weâd instead suggest heading to Bormes-les-Mimosas, a picturesque, flower-filled Provençal village. Its coastline offers beautiful beaches and is home to the famous Fort de BrĂ©gançon⊠a visit you should make in the region!
So, ready for this ride? đ¶
â Elegant as CĂ©ladon, agile as Scaramouche, I warn you, dear Myrmidon, that at the end of the sending-off I run ! â đââïž
