The event in a few words

Here we go for a race that promises to be electrifying! ⚡️

Yes indeed, it’s the legendary Roc d'Azur event you’re looking at right now. We’re sure that if we’d told you a few years ago that you’d be taking part, you wouldn’t have believed us, but here you are, about to join the ranks of the legends 👀. Because yes, this race has everything of a legend. With more than 40 successful editions, it keeps growing every year by combining trailgravelcyclosportivehiking, mountain biking and e-biking 😎.

In case you’ve been living under a rock, here’s the quick version. The Roc d'Azur is a bit like the famous Roland-Garros tennis tournament 🎾, or the pedal-powered version of the UTMB : it’s simply a heavyweight in the two-wheel game 🚲. Since 1984 (yes, the same year as the Los Angeles Olympic Games đŸ‡şđŸ‡¸), this event has carved out its place and established itself as a must. And yet, the race didn’t exactly get off to a flying start (not bad, right 😬). In FrĂŠjus, in the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-CĂ´te d’Azur region, the first edition of the MTB Roc D’Azur race brought together only 7 participants 😉

Held at the beginning of October, the Roc d’Azur quickly became the world’s leading MTB event đŸšľâ€â™‚️ and now brings together everyone involved in cycling and mountain biking. In fact, there are now more than 20,000 participants lining up at the starts of the various races offered each year! But if you’re here, it’s to talk about the newest additions to the event: e-bikes (electric-assist bikes 🔋). Yes, with a desire for inclusivity and to stay in tune with current trends, the organizers have been offering for several editions non-timed ride routes to be completed on an e-bike. Green 🟢, blue 🔵, red 🔴, or black ⚫️, you can choose according to your level. And what’s more, several starts for each color are offered during the week. So if you’re not available on Wednesday or Thursday, see if you can line up for a route over the weekend ✅. All the courses are between 20 km and 52 km long, and include more or less elevation gain. For those who want to stretch the pleasure as much as possible, the longest journey is the “Rando d'Azur Électrique,” taking you around 55 km and 1,275 mD+ in the shortest time possible, with 5 aid stations spread across the entire route 🍽️. Because yes, the goal is above all to keep the enjoyment of the sport: the organizers set up between 3 and 5 aid stations per route so you won’t lack anything. More than an effort in the Var, it’s also a gastronomic discovery awaiting you on the Provençal trails.

So there’s something for your taste buds, but also for your eyes 🤩. It’s simple: open your eyes wide, breathe deeply, and bam, you’re in the Var ! 😍 Admire the sublime oak and pine forests đŸŒ˛, the lakes and rivers 🏞, the vineyards, the coastal trails, the natural parks, and of course the Mediterranean Sea… 🌊 What’s more, the weather here is ideal since the Var has around 300 days of sunshine a year! This department really is a runner’s paradise! ☀️ No wonder the Var is the second most touristy department in France! The Roc d’Azur will let you discover this department and its villages. You’ll discover: FrĂŠjus, an ancient Roman city with incredible architectural heritage on the Mediterranean coast, as well as Roquebrune-sur-Argens a charming little thousand-year-old village by the water, or even Saint-RaphaĂŤl and Sainte-Maxime ! â˜ď¸

The routes are extremely varied! 🏳️‍🌈 You’ll ride along charming southern trails, roads by the sea, and you’ll discover magnificent little sun-drenched Mediterranean coves! 🏖 You won’t see the kilometers go by, we promise! Moving from the sea 🌅 to the mountains â›°ď¸, without forgetting the Provençal forests… The variety of landscapes will make you forget the effort! You’ll also take advantage of these superb routes to discover the Massif des Maures and the Massif de l’EstĂŠrel â›°ď¸, two mountain ranges with striking landscapes characterized by limestone and red rocks, where steep reliefs take shape and give the scenery a special charm that won’t leave you indifferent—we guarantee it! 🤞 In addition to the sporting program, the Roc d’Azur hosts each year the largest free MTB expo open to everyone 🚵‍♂️. It also offers numerous activities highlighting various disciplines from the cycling world.

So, what do we do after the ride? If you don’t know the Var, we recommend going to discover the Verdon Gorge ! 🌅 Located in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, this river offers an impressive landscape shaped by erosion! The canyon of course boasts exceptional biodiversity thanks to the meeting of Alpine and Mediterranean climates 🌊. If you’re brave, you can even go for a swim, take a canoe-kayak đŸ›ś ride, a pedal boat đŸš¤ or go rafting ! đŸŒŠ Also, if after this race you’d like to discover a typical village in the Var, we’d rather recommend heading to the village of Bormes-Les-Mimosas, a picturesque, flower-filled Provençal village. Its coastline offers very beautiful beaches and is home to the famous Fort de BrĂŠgançon… a visit to do in the area!

So don’t forget your charger, and come join us at full Azur speed (pace)! 💨

4 reasons to join this race

A leisurely ride ... ❤️
It’s all in the name: the events are “rides,” so you’ll be able to take your time and enjoy the scenery 🏔️. Since the routes aren’t timed, there’s no ranking and you’re given time to cross the finish line. In an environment like this, it would be a shame not to make the most of it 😁.
... still seriously hilly 🥵
Electric assistance is a serious boost, but it doesn’t do everything either 😉. Between your photo breaks/aid stations and admiring the scenery, you’ll still have to push with your legs to get through the elevation gain that’s in store for you. Between 300 and 1300 mD+ per route, that’s nothing to sneeze at 💥.
A change of scenery, Made in France 🇫🇷
If you want to escape Parisian gloom, this is THE race you need! Indeed, in October the weather is generally still very nice in the Var. It’s a department with no fewer than 300 days of sunshine per year! So if you want to enjoy the last rays of sun before winter, this is where you need to go! ⚡️
An insane atmosphere 📢
Each year, nearly 20,000 participants start the various races on offer. The atmosphere is incredible! On top of the sporting program, the Roc d’Azur hosts a huge free MTB expo open to everyone, with lots of activities 🎊.
