Here we go for a race that promises to be electrifying! âĄď¸
Yes indeed, itâs the legendary Roc d'Azur event youâre looking at right now. Weâre sure that if weâd told you a few years ago that youâd be taking part, you wouldnât have believed us, but here you are, about to join the ranks of the legends đ. Because yes, this race has everything of a legend. With more than 40 successful editions, it keeps growing every year by combining trail, gravel, cyclosportive, hiking, mountain biking and e-biking đ.
In case youâve been living under a rock, hereâs the quick version. The Roc d'Azur is a bit like the famous Roland-Garros tennis tournament đž, or the pedal-powered version of the UTMB : itâs simply a heavyweight in the two-wheel game đ˛. Since 1984 (yes, the same year as the Los Angeles Olympic Games đşđ¸), this event has carved out its place and established itself as a must. And yet, the race didnât exactly get off to a flying start (not bad, right đŹ). In FrĂŠjus, in the Var, in the Provence-Alpes-CĂ´te dâAzur region, the first edition of the MTB Roc DâAzur race brought together only 7 participants đ
Held at the beginning of October, the Roc dâAzur quickly became the worldâs leading MTB event đľââď¸ and now brings together everyone involved in cycling and mountain biking. In fact, there are now more than 20,000 participants lining up at the starts of the various races offered each year! But if youâre here, itâs to talk about the newest additions to the event: e-bikes (electric-assist bikes đ). Yes, with a desire for inclusivity and to stay in tune with current trends, the organizers have been offering for several editions non-timed ride routes to be completed on an e-bike. Green đ˘, blue đľ, red đ´, or black âŤď¸, you can choose according to your level. And whatâs more, several starts for each color are offered during the week. So if youâre not available on Wednesday or Thursday, see if you can line up for a route over the weekend â . All the courses are between 20 km and 52 km long, and include more or less elevation gain. For those who want to stretch the pleasure as much as possible, the longest journey is the âRando d'Azur Ălectrique,â taking you around 55 km and 1,275 mD+ in the shortest time possible, with 5 aid stations spread across the entire route đ˝ď¸. Because yes, the goal is above all to keep the enjoyment of the sport: the organizers set up between 3 and 5 aid stations per route so you wonât lack anything. More than an effort in the Var, itâs also a gastronomic discovery awaiting you on the Provençal trails.
So thereâs something for your taste buds, but also for your eyes đ¤Š. Itâs simple: open your eyes wide, breathe deeply, and bam, youâre in the Var ! đ Admire the sublime oak and pine forests đ˛, the lakes and rivers đ, the vineyards, the coastal trails, the natural parks, and of course the Mediterranean Sea⌠đ Whatâs more, the weather here is ideal since the Var has around 300 days of sunshine a year! This department really is a runnerâs paradise! âď¸ No wonder the Var is the second most touristy department in France! The Roc dâAzur will let you discover this department and its villages. Youâll discover: FrĂŠjus, an ancient Roman city with incredible architectural heritage on the Mediterranean coast, as well as Roquebrune-sur-Argens a charming little thousand-year-old village by the water, or even Saint-RaphaĂŤl and Sainte-Maxime ! âď¸
The routes are extremely varied! đłď¸âđ Youâll ride along charming southern trails, roads by the sea, and youâll discover magnificent little sun-drenched Mediterranean coves! đ You wonât see the kilometers go by, we promise! Moving from the sea đ to the mountains â°ď¸, without forgetting the Provençal forests⌠The variety of landscapes will make you forget the effort! Youâll also take advantage of these superb routes to discover the Massif des Maures and the Massif de lâEstĂŠrel â°ď¸, two mountain ranges with striking landscapes characterized by limestone and red rocks, where steep reliefs take shape and give the scenery a special charm that wonât leave you indifferentâwe guarantee it! đ¤ In addition to the sporting program, the Roc dâAzur hosts each year the largest free MTB expo open to everyone đľââď¸. It also offers numerous activities highlighting various disciplines from the cycling world.
So, what do we do after the ride? If you donât know the Var, we recommend going to discover the Verdon Gorge ! đ Located in the heart of the Verdon Regional Natural Park, this river offers an impressive landscape shaped by erosion! The canyon of course boasts exceptional biodiversity thanks to the meeting of Alpine and Mediterranean climates đ. If youâre brave, you can even go for a swim, take a canoe-kayak đś ride, a pedal boat đ¤ or go rafting ! đ Also, if after this race youâd like to discover a typical village in the Var, weâd rather recommend heading to the village of Bormes-Les-Mimosas, a picturesque, flower-filled Provençal village. Its coastline offers very beautiful beaches and is home to the famous Fort de BrĂŠgançon⌠a visit to do in the area!
So donât forget your charger, and come join us at full Azur speed (pace)! đ¨
