If you feel like hearing the snow crunch under your feet ☃️, then this race is made for you ! It’s in Morzine, in the Haute-Savoie department, near Switzerland, that you’ll be able—just before Christmas 🎅 (what a lovely gift, right? 🎁)—to lace up your crampons 🥾 and later reward your taste buds with the best winter specialties! 🫕 Then, just like the summer toboggan 🛷, a flagship attraction in Morzine, two routes will be offered to you—enough to satisfy every curious runner at the Spartan Morzine Winter Trail 💪.
Green run or black run, during this icy event ❄️, you’ll have a choice between two race formats! The 21 km for the most hardcore and the 10 km for the more chilly. These two races, held at 1,000 meters of altitude, will get your heart beating a little faster ❤️. You’ll be able to push yourself through magnificent landscapes 🏞️. As for the thermometer 🌡️, bet on zero rather than shorts: in mid-December, Morzine rarely plays the mild-weather card. Luckily, running warms hearts too, so let yourself be guided through the wildlife and flora 🍃 along the paths, letting your eyes 🤩 wander, hoping to come across a few wonderful creatures such as the chamois 🦌 or the stag 🫎. If you really start to get cold, don’t forget the amazing atmosphere that characterizes the Spartan Morzine Winter Trail 🎊 and think about the famous fire jump 🔥 that will challenge you at the finish and will, without a doubt, give you quite a rush of heat! 🥵 See the advantage of being on foot : you won’t risk getting stuck on a chairlift 🚡 (when will I see you again, wondrous land) ! So trust your legs and everything will go like clockwork 🛼.
After wondering why you’re putting yourself through this kind of evil race 🦹♀️, you’ll be able to enjoy all the activities offered in this magnificent ski area! ⛷️ A little calendar tip 🗓️: the Avoriaz sector opens as early as December 11, i.e. two days before your race, while Morzine-Les Gets only opens on December 19. There’ll be something for everyone 🤓 : if you want to give your legs a rest 🦵, treat yourself to a dog sledding activity—not bad, right? Well, if keeping your feet on the ground 🌍 isn’t really your thing, go discover paragliding to discover Morzine with your head in the clouds ☁️. Even if you end up hating the cold after your Spartan, we’ll whisper in your ear 👂 that just a few minutes from the resort, you can keep the fun going (or the torture 😅), because the resort of Avoriaz offers you an unusual night 🌃 in an igloo 🐧 to put you in an Inuit’s shoes—tempted? 🤪 As a Chinese proverb says, "the true path to a man’s heart goes through his stomach" 🍽️. This place will have all the best options to satisfy you. Raclette, tartiflette, croziflette… 🫕 Yes, it really is a party! 🥳
Take advantage of this event to awaken all your senses and create memories that will, later on, refresh your mind 😎.
The big format of the Spartan Winter Trail, and clearly the one for the most hardcore 🥶. A single 21 km loop starting from the Tourist Office Square, right in the heart of the village, with a finish in exactly the same spot. In between, the rules set the tone: paths, mountain trails, forest tracks and a few road crossings, all along the ski runs and through high-altitude forests ❄️. You’ll be running at an average of around 1,200 meters altitude, in about 5°C, on terrain that goes through protected areas—hence the rosette strongly recommended on the tip of your poles 🥢. Start time is 9:00 a.m., one hour before the 10 km: you’ll have the trails to yourself, but also the coolest temperature of the day 🌡️. Three aid stations await you on the course, plus the final one at the finish: and there, it’s the full mountain arsenal—cheeses, cured meats, bread, chocolate, and hot soup 🫕. Before that, you’ll still have to clear the famous fire jump 🔥.
The discovery format, launched one hour after the 21 km ⏱️. Same scenery, same single loop with the start and finish at Tourist Office Square: ski slopes, high-altitude forests and snowy trails, but a much more approachable outing, accessible from age 16 🙌. If you’ve never run on snow, it’s the ideal gateway: you discover snow trail running without committing to a mountain half marathon ☃️. Start time is when the village has woken up and the atmosphere of the Spartan village is in full swing 🎊. One aid station awaits you on the course, a second at the finish, and the fire jump to end on a high note 🔥.
