This year, the association of CLSO (Chablais Leman Sport Organisation) is setting up the laughing race at Lons-le-Saunier. Prepare your best jokes, we are expecting you not only to perform but also to have a good laugh 🤣.
And yes, it may surprise you, but the laughing cow is getting into sports 🐮. After all, who said it was impossible to combine both? What is certain is that you'll have abs of steel before the finish line. In May 🧀, head to the Jura and its famous cheese production to visit the most famous cow in France 🇫🇷. But there's no question of just enjoying with your eyes; your legs will be useful too 🦵. A 10 km and a 5 km on road are offered during the ocasion, allowing you to take a guided tour between the House of The Laughing Cow 🏠, the statue of Rouget de Lisle, and the prettiest alleys of the town 🏙️. We'll tell you more just below 👇
Our Lédonians friends want to show you the best of the departmental capital. Even if the name of the city doesn't necessarily resonate with you, the town and its agglomeration still concentrate 27,000 inhabitants and attract all the county's runners 🏃. For this, two distances are offered: a 5 km and a 10 km on the road. Unless you want to set a PR on the road, trail runners can pass on 🪨. Both routes are designed to be very fast and ideal for achieving a dream time ⏱️: only 15 mD+ and 30 mD+ are to be declared. Logically, it's the race of the laughing cow, not the laughing chamois 😬. During the 5 km loop, you'll tread the asphalt like a Formula 1 weaving between spectators who came to applaud you for the occasion 🏎️. The 10 km consists of two loops of 5 km: the first to preview the terrain and anticipate the challenges, and the second to give it your all and perform 💨. Since the race starts in the late afternoon, you can even enjoy the setting sun 🌅.
Regarding the local specialties, we hope you're not adverse to raw milk and mushrooms 🍄. The Jura is known for its cheeses of all kinds: Comté, Morbier, Mont d'Or, and Bleu de Gex, your nostrils will get a treat 👃. Once the running part is over, you can continue physical activities, or simply go cheer on friends taking part in the Cyclosportive La Vache qui rit. The road event offers several distances, organized from Friday to Sunday. You won't often see Lons-le-Saunier as buzzing as it is during that weekend 👀. If the area appeals to you, but you're looking for more nature than tarmac 🌱, don't hesitate to return next April. You will find the stunning Trail des Reculées, offering distances from 11 to 55 km. From a natural perspective, follow your instinct and discover the Hérisson waterfalls 🦔, Lake Chalain ⛵️, or Lake Vouglans. In other words, there's something for everyone, and you can always make a quick stop for fresh cheese with our bovine friend to delight your taste buds 👅.
The Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, it's really great, isn't it? ✌️ If you want to be sure, head to Lons-le-Saunier in May! 📍
The 10 km, it's twice the 5 km, easy right? 🤷♂️
Divided into two loops that are based on the 5 km course, this route will allow you to get your bearings initially and immerse yourself in the challenging sections 🧐. On the second lap 🔄, you'll already know where to accelerate and when to give it everything you've got left in your legs for the final sprint 💥.
Let's go to discover Lons-le-Saunier 🏁.
First step: a quick start from the chemin des Sondes. Don't give it your all right from the start, you still have to maintain for a good twenty minutes 😳. Once you've crossed the first two roundabouts, you should start to visualize your pack of runners 👟. Although this is not a team race, it's always better to be accompanied by runners with a similar pace 👀. You will arrive at the Maison de la Vache qui Rit after 1.5 km of running. Don't get distracted by observing the facade and keep moving, there's still a good portion of effort 💦.
On the second part of the race, enjoy the city center to spot the few shops you might want to raid once the race is over, then head towards the south of the city 🛍️. At the intersection of rue des Écoles, take the right-angle turn and continue onto rue des Salines 🏘️. Here you are, reaching the last kilometer! If you see the crowd in the distance, you haven't lost your way. You can celebrate and moo as much as you like 🐮, you've earned it! 👏
