Love elevation? Then this race is for you! 👇
Neither Ain nor two, in Oyonnax in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, you'll flirt with the peaks thanks to breathtaking mountain landscapes ⛰️. The Tiger Balm Ultra 01 will offer you panoramic views, rich biodiversity, and endless altitude... Yes, you will not escape the ultra-important elevation gain of this competition! With its 6 distances, you have a choice between the 170 km (doable solo or in a relay... fortunately! 😂), the 100 km, the 65 km, the 45 km, the 25 km, and the 13 km. Phew, it's going to hurt! 🦵 Mid-July temperatures will encourage you to tackle, day or night 🌙, these demanding but beautiful races in the heart of the Mountains of Ain !
Trail, trail, trail, trail, trail! !
You just had to ask! With the Ultra 01, you have 6 distances to satisfy your hunger 🍟. There is something for all profiles, although the competition is more geared towards experienced trail runners 🏃♂️. Indeed, the shortest and most accessible trail is the 13 km. The 25 km will already have you climbing more than 900 mD+ ! 😱 So, you can imagine that the other distances will not be easy either! 😅 You can expect to overcome 1,700 mD+ for the 45 km, 3,100 mD+ for the 65 km, 5,000 mD+ for the 100 km, and... 9,000 mD+ for the 170 km (ouch, the legs 💥). But don't worry, the organizers are not so cruel! You have the option to form a team of 8 brave trail runners to accompany you on this final challenge and complete it in a relay 😌. Nonetheless, we wish good luck to the unfortunate valiant participants who will choose to complete it solo 💪.
These ups and downs are above all a great way to push yourself beyond your limits and enjoy breathtaking natural landscapes 😍. Some courses reach the heights of the Haut-Bugey. You'll also alternate between small mountain villages, ridges, and rocky plateaus of the Jura 💚. You'll pass through a place nicknamed the "little Canada": the stunning Lake Genin, or the Lake of Nantua and its turquoise waters. Surrounded by forests 🌲 or limestone cliffs, the beautiful sunrises and sunsets will leave you awestruck. The next generation is ready to face 3 children's races! The program includes the "Minimes and Benjamins" race of 3 km, the "Poussins" race of 1.5 km 🐣, and the "Awakening" race of 700 m for the youngest 👶.
After such exertion, there's a good chance your stomach will be growling! 😋 Take the opportunity to make a gastronomic stop in the charming city of Vonnas, home to the prestigious Georges Blanc's gastronomic restaurant, three-starred in the Michelin Guide after all! ✨ If you want to eat local, try the pike dumplings with Nantua sauce and the very famous Comté cheese, a real delight 🤤. And for a little after-meal stroll, take a wander through the Haut-Jura Regional Natural Park and discover the Hérisson Waterfalls 💦.
As you've gathered, the Ultra 01 of Oyonnax will put your calves to the test, but it's worth it! 😏
With its 8,800 mD+, the ULTRA 170 leads up to the mythical peaks of the Ain ⛰️ like the Grand Crêt d’Eau or the Montoisey.
It's a starting signal that will ring out in Oyonnax, to set off in the Forest of Niermes 🌲. The first refreshment will be at the 8th km at Petit Vallon 🥤 to then tackle the Col du Sentier. On the route, you will also pass by Mont Burdet, Lac Nantua, and cross the Forest of Combe Noire. Many mountain ranges will be offered to you throughout your race, after having passed the Bois de Beloz 🌳. The high points will be the Crêts de l'Éguillon, the Crêts de la Goutte, and the Montoisey ⛰️.
170 km is too much? Let's not even mention the 8,800 mD+! So if you're looking to lighten your load, you can take 7 teammates and accomplish this colossal race in a relay for 8 🤝.
Starting from downtown Valserhône, the ULTRA 100 will follow the Valserine trail before joining the ascent of the Crêt de la Goutte and will continue on the same course as the ULTRA 170 up to Oyonnax 🚩.
This 65 km will take you through the National Nature Reserve of Haute Chaîne du Jura. But you have to earn it! 😜
You will have to face 3,100 mD+ 📈. The start will be at Thory, then you will pass through Mont Jura and Roche Fauconnière then Roche d'Orvay ⛰️. You will also go through the Forest of Belleydoux and the Bois de Belmont 🌲 before reaching Oyonnax to cross a well-deserved finish line! 🍾
The 45 km is already a tough distance, even if it remains one of the smallest and most accessible of the competition. Don't go into it blindly, because 1,700 mD+ awaits you! 🙃
Starting at Lélex, this small Jura station where you will then head towards the Crêt du Merle before descending slightly to the Roche Fauconnière ⛰️ then climb back up to the Roche d'Orvaz before crossing the Bois de Belmont to reach Oyonnax 🌿.
The brand new event of the competition allows you to join the starting line 🏁 even if you're not an experienced trail runner. It's a smaller distance, but still a significant challenge as it includes 900 mD+ 📈.
The start will be from Oyonnax 🏃♂️, then you'll set off into the Forest of Niermes, climb the Haut Crêt and the Basset corridor, before descending towards Lac Genin 🏞️. Then you'll cross the Forest of Oyonnax and the Bois de Rièremont 🌿 to reach the finish line, which will be at the same place as the start of the race!
