Craving a bib that smells like mountain and fresh air? The Tour du Pic de Peyre Eyraute near Briançon takes you to dip your toes into the Hautes-Alpes for an high-altitude adventure ☁️.
If your calves are looking for a good reason to tremble, head to Villar-Saint-Pancrace, at the gateway to the Briançonnais area and its famous Vauban fortress 🏔️. In August, the next race on your calendar brings together lovers of high mountains under a late-summer sky that alternates bright sunshine with biting coolness in the early morning 🌅. We still recommend spreading a good layer of sunscreen first thing in the morning: at over 2,900 m D+, the UV hits hard 🧴.
And yes, you’re not signing up for a Sky running race, but you’ll come pretty close 🙄. The route loops around the Peyre Eyraute peak and its 2,903 m D+ by dropping into the Ayes valley, one of the massif’s most discreet. You’ll cross a centuries-old Swiss stone pine forest, skirt the Taure chalets and head to Lake Orceyrette, a mirror of water set right in the heart of the alpine pastures 🪞. Sure, it’s less urbanized than the one in Bordeaux, but just as spectacular 😍. For more information, you’ll have to wait until race day. The organizers keep their passages well hidden: they prefer to reveal the itinerary at the last moment and mark it out with directional arrows and stakes rather than paint 🎨, to preserve these areas classified as Natura 2000 and attached to the Queyras Regional Nature Park 🌿. Still, that doesn’t stop you from going hiking in the area to train your calves and uncover the secrets of this region 🦵.
What especially characterizes this trail is its ability to adapt to every ambition. The "Grand Tour" covers 43 km and 3,150 m D+ in a wild setting reserved for strong legs, while the "Petit Tour" offers an equally thrilling adventure, but in a shortened version, without the climb back up to the lake 📈. Switching between the two is even possible at km 30, for those who overestimated themselves—or conversely, for those who still have some juice left 🔥. On this second course, it’s no small feat: 32 km and 2,100 m D+ in the heart of nature are waiting for you. If you’re a young newcomer to the discipline, we suggest you turn instead to the "Tour du Lac", which, as its name indicates, loops around the lake over 25 km, or "L'Alpin Race Tour" for a first high-altitude outing of 10 km. A legendary distance for a legendary race—this is an event that promises 😎.
Once your sneakers are put away, head to the Vauban Citadel of Briançon, listed as UNESCO, to wander between ramparts and steep alleys 🏰. Climb a bit more up to the Fort des Têtes for one last panorama of the peaks you’ve just taken on, or settle into the greenery of the Parc de la Schappe. After the effort, a good plate of local specialties always ends up on the table, typically including tourton, Savoyard fondue or raclette. And yes—after a biting effort, it’s time for melting cheese 🫕.

Yes. You must be at least 18 years old to take part in the "Grand Tour", the "Petit Tour" and the "Tour du Lac", and at least 16 years old to take part in "L'Alpin Race Tour".
Yes. A medical certificate stating no contraindication to competitive running, valid on race day, or a PPS, or a valid FFA license is required at registration or on race day. Foreign participants must provide a medical certificate, even if they hold a competition license issued by a federation affiliated with the IAAF.
They vary depending on the race and the purchase period:
"L'Alpin Race Tour" (10 km): €20, then €25 from August 1, 2026
"Le Tour du Lac" (25 km): €30, then €38 from August 1, 2026
"Le Petit Tour" (32 km): €50, then €60 from August 1, 2026
"Le Grand Tour" (43 km): €50, then €60 from August 1, 2026
Yes, here they are depending on the race:
For the "Grand Tour": maximum 10 hours of racing, with a mandatory passage at La Mine (km 30) before 6 hours 30 minutes of racing, otherwise you will be redirected to the "Petit Tour" finish
For the "Petit Tour": maximum 8 hours of racing, finish before 3:00 pm
For the "Tour du Lac": maximum 6 hours of racing, finish before 2:00 pm
For "L'Alpin Race Tour": maximum 4 hours of racing, finish before 2:00 pm
Aid stations are provided depending on the different events:
For the "Grand Tour": Plan du Peyron (km 11), Saint-Martin-de-Queyrières (km 26), Le Mélézin (km 40), finish at the mountain center (km 43)
For the "Petit Tour": Plan du Peyron (km 11), Saint-Martin-de-Queyrières (km 26), finish at the mountain center (km 32)

Depending on the weather, a beanie or a buff, gloves, and a long-sleeve top may become mandatory on all distances. Poles are allowed. A surprise check may be carried out on the course.
