The event in a few words

Have you heard about the High Atlas? We're not talking about the Titan from Greek mythology, but the mountain range in Morocco 🇲🇦.

Head to the province of Al Haouz in the region of Marrakech-Safi for an adventure that will take you to cloud nine 🌌. At the beginning of July, the ski resort at Oukaimeden trades its skis ⛷️ for your trail running shoes 👟 for an intense weekend with the Trail Atlas Oukaimeden! ☀️ As for the weather at this time, you'll be well served: pleasant temperatures (15-25°C), no heatwave like in the city 🌆. Plus, you’ll have long days to enjoy the stunning high-altitude desert landscapes around you 🏜️.

With 8 events spread over 2 days, there's something for every leg! Whether you're a seasoned ultra-trailer 💪 or a curious beginner looking to discover mountain trail running 🌱, the UTAO has thought of you! The "Challenge L'Ouka" (67 km over 2 days with 3860 mD+) for those hungry for elevation changes 🤤 just like the "Challenge Agnouziz" over two days but with a total of 46 km to cover, the "Trail Imnane" (42 km) for those who want a real challenge 🔥, the "Trail of the Three Summits" (25 km) for an intense discovery ⚡, the "Trail of the Valley" (21 km) accessible yet tough 💯, the "Trail of the Chalets" (16 km) to taste the altitude 🥾, the "Mini Trail Awoto" (10 km) for a gentle start 😊, and even a "Kids Trail" (3 km) for the little champs 🏆. Yes, we don't want any envy. Trail running is for everyone! 🤲 In short, you can come with your family and everyone will find their happiness! 👨‍👩‍👧‍👦. Suffice to say that your thighs will remember it, but your eyes too, and that's what's important 🤩. As for the terrain, there's no kidding with the technicality 🛠️. The course is a pure concentrate of Berber mountain 🥤. You will tread on ancestral paths, cross areas of loose rocks, as opposed to lush oases 🌳, and even cross passes that require true expertise 🎢. You will pass through incredible sites like the summit of Oukaimeden, the Col de Tizi n'Eddi, or the valley of Ourika. It's raw, it's dry 🌵, and that's exactly what we love in high-altitude trail running 📈. Landscapes like this one are nowhere else on the globe 🌍. It's truly a golden opportunity to add the real Morocco to your travel trail bucket-list ✈️.

Forget the clichés of Morocco by the beach 🏖️. Here, it's the authentic Morocco of the mountains 🏔️, the one few tourists know 🤫. The Oukaimeden is a ski resort in winter ⛷️ (yes, you can ski in Morocco, the snow is not a myth 😮) and a paradise for trail runners and hikers in summer 🏃. Enjoy your stay to explore the valley of Ourika 🌿, visit the perched Berber villages 🏘️ and observe the rock carvings 🗿. Don't forget to stop by Marrakech just an hour and a half away with its Jemaa el-Fnaa square 🐍, its colorful souks 🌶️, the Majorelle Gardens 💙, and the Bahia Palace 🏰. On the dining side 🍽️, treat yourself to the tagine 🍲, the couscous, the sweet-and-salty pastilla 🥧, street skewers 🍢, and Moroccan pastries 🍰 (corne de gazelle, chebakia) with a nice mint tea 🍵.

So, ready to reach the peak of your health? Be careful though: after the effort, the hardest part will be avoiding a tagine overdose. That's the real downside of success! 🥇

4 reasons to join this race

A unique high-altitude terrain 🔝
Here, we don't pretend: you run on the roof of North Africa with an already high starting line. The impact of altitude on your cardio is immediate, and that's what makes the sporting interest of the event. You evolve on ridges and plateaus where the horizon is completely clear over the massif's peaks. It's a mineral, dry, and wild environment that imposes a different rhythm from your usual flatland races. It's the perfect meeting if you want to see how your body reacts when the oxygen decreases. 💪
A technicality that demands expertise 🧗‍♂️
The course is a succession of technical challenges where foot placement must be precise. Between granite blocks, steep slopes, and narrow trails, you have no time to get bored. It's a trail that demands attention and good mastery of descents in unstable terrain. We're far from sanitized races; it's old-school, raw, and unadorned trail. You come here to challenge the Moroccan mountain in its most demanding form ⛰️.
A real immersion in Berber villages 🇲🇦
The race crosses isolated areas where the runners' passage is an event awaited by the locals. The welcome in the hamlets is frank and authentic, offering a rather striking contrast with the solitary effort in the mountains. You meet the inhabitants on their life paths, giving a very strong human dimension to your race. It's a sincere experience that allows you to discover the Atlas from the inside, well beyond the purely sporting aspect. It's this "real" side that stays in mind once the finish line is crossed. ✨
A serious and human-sized organization 🛠️
The UTAO remains a race of enthusiasts where the runner is not lost in the crowd. The marking and safety are managed by people who practice the terrain all year round. The spirit is friendly, the welcome is professional, and the atmosphere in the village really allows you to unwind after the effort. There's a desire to respect the mountain environment while offering a solid experience to participants. It's a reliable organization that focuses on the quality of the route and the safety of the runners above all. 🌍
