In June, the birds 🐦 are out and so are the trail runners! 😎 So get your sneakers and your best cap 🧢 ready for the Trail Oisans-Matheysine in Ornon 🏞️. Right in the heart of Isère, this race is the perfect opportunity to push yourself, whether you’re into long trail or short trail. One thing’s for sure: for all events, elevation gain will be part of the deal, so you’ll need to dig in and maybe even bring your poles! 🥢 Because yes, even if this trail takes place in spring, you’ll enjoy one of the most beautiful mountain ranges in the world: the Alps ⛰️. All of it on 100% nature 🍃 trails, and even with a little touch of snow ❄️ depending on the year.
As close as possible to the forest 🌲, you can set off on a 5 km with 270 m D+, a 12 km with 770 m D+, a 22 km with 1,380 m D+, or on the event’s mastodon: 45 km and 3,100 m D+! 🦖 4 distances, 4 ways to take part, and 4 times more chances to run on breathtaking routes 🤩. That’s right—the Trail Oisans-Matheysine is an opportunity to discover the Lignarre Valley ⛰️ and the Malsanne. Chantepérier, Chantelouve, Le Périer or Ornon 🏘️—even if these names aren’t familiar to you yet, they surely will be after your race! ☝️ What’s more, the 45 km goes through the Taillefer Massif with a crossing of the plateau where you can admire Lac de Brouffier, Lac Claret, Lac Poursollet or Lac Noir... Must-sees in Oisans! 🤓 You’ll be immersed in a setting worthy of the film Belle and Sebastian, with high-altitude lakes and fields as far as the eye can see... 🌾 A great way to fill up on fresh air for a weekend! 🗓️ And good news: you’ll be able to come with the family, because many activities are offered for children 🎉.
By the way, after you cross the finish line, why not extend this magical moment? Less than an hour’s drive away, you can explore the city of Grenoble and its famous Fort de la Bastille 🏰, a cable car ride up that will leave you speechless 🤯. Still craving nature? Écrins National Park is a true paradise for hikers 🥾. What’s more, there’s a wide variety of trails, which will delight every member of the tribe! 🥰 And for a relaxing break, Lac de Monteynard, with its famous footbridges 🌉, offers breathtaking landscapes while you enjoy water activities 🛶.
So stop watching the birds from the city and take flight at the Trail Oisans-Matheysine! 🪽
A word from the organizer:
"An early-season race with routes laid out between the Taillefer and Écrins massifs. This event is also a journey through breathtaking landscapes."
Want to take on the giant of this trail event? Well then, let’s go for a loop of 45 km and 3,100 m D+! We hope you’ll be full after all that 🥵. This year, the route has been slightly modified due to snow slides, but the promise to offer you the most beautiful trail in the Grenoble area still stands. Your course will be made up exclusively of steep paths, so you’ll need to be well trained 💪. Most of the elevation gain will come at the start of the race, from km 10 to km 17 📈. The rest of the route will be rolling, giving you time to recover on the descents! 📉 Along the way you’ll be able to see the Lac de Brouffier, the Lac Claret, the Lac Punay, the Lac Poursollet, the Lacs Noirs and Lac de la Veche. You get it—you’ll have plenty to cool off with if needed! After km 32, you’ll reach the town of Oulles and then follow the Lignare river. You won’t be far from the finish anymore: you’ll just have to cross the village of Ornon, and then you can give it everything on the last 4 km ! 🚀
22 km and 1,380 m D+, that’s starting to add up! 🥵 For this route, you won’t be heading in the same direction as the two shorter races of the event. Your loop will take you toward the small town of Ornon. You’ll do the bulk of your climb from km 4 to km 10 📈. You’ll need to keep some in reserve because the descent will be technical with small switchbacks in the forest 🌲. One last climb will be waiting for you from km 16 to km 18, so you’ll have to hang on to reach the finish line! 🏁
Starting from the Gîte Le Chantelouve, you’ll need to tighten your laces because it’s going to climb! 📈 Yes—just because the distance looks manageable doesn’t mean the elevation gain is too 😅. You’ll set off along the Ravin des Pales and will have to take on quite a few tight switchbacks. You’ll descend from km 3 to km 6 before... climbing again! But don’t panic, the hardest part will be behind you 😉, so you can enjoy this mountain setting! ⛰️
After departing from Gîte Le Chantelouve, at the Col d’Ornon in the commune of Chanteperier, you will go climb along the Ravin des Pales ⛰️. You will then head back down towards the Ruisseau de la Pras to take the Route du Grand Armet, which will guide you to the finish! 🏁
You’ll be able to pick up your bib on Saturday, June 6, 2026 between 4:00 pm and 7:00 pm at the Le Chantelouve gîte - Col d'Ornon, and on race day (Sunday, June 7, 2026) up to 15 minutes before the start of each race (same place).
