The event in a few words

The Var like you’ve never seen it! While running, you’re going to Vary through all the diverse and Varied natural beauties of this magnificent department. 😁

A marathon in the Var in the month of May 🗓️? It’s exactly what you need to get ready for the summer races and your summer body as best as possible 🩳! After an edition held in September due to health conditions 🦠, the Marathon Var Provence Verte or MVPV for close friends, is returning to its springtime slot 🌸 for the next editions. Head to Brignoles for a full-scale immersion in the PACA region! 💪🏼

Even if the event’s name might make you think of a road race, it’s actually nature races that await you. To make the most of the wonderful Var landscapes, the organizers offer 4 distances: a 10 km, a 26 km (a trail format), a half marathon, and a marathon that can be done solo 👤, as a duo, or in a team of 5 people 🖐🏼. And who says nature says elevation gain—we’re not going to trim the shrubs just for your pretty eyes 👀. So you’ll find elevation gains respectively of 92 mD+, 912 mD+, 217 mD+ and 308 mD+ across the distances mentioned above 📏. For those who love something new and an original course, it’s also possible to take on the event’s “Run and Bike”, a multi-discipline experience to share as a team of two 👥. The little ones 👦🏼 aren’t left out either, since the organizers are preparing 1 km and 2 km races for them. It’s an ideal rendezvous for families and outings with friends in the great outdoors 🍃. Even the group’s snails are welcome thanks to a 15 km hike with almost 500 mD+ (496 to be precise 🕵️‍♀️).

Ready for a colorful adventure 🎨? The predominant color will actually be green 🟢, as nature will be abundant 🌱. And yes, it’s not for nothing that it’s called the Marathon Var Provence Verte. Through world-famous panoramas, you’ll be able to admire stretches of lavender, pass through vineyards 🍇, or marvel at olive groves 🌳, all enhanced by streams and waterways 💦. An absolutely magical setting 🪄 typical of southern landscapes. As for route difficulty, you don’t need to worry: the organizers offer you a mix between a trail and a road race. So you’ll be able to shine on courses shared between pleasant tracks and paths 👍🏼. Through the Parc Naturel Régional de la Sainte-Baume 🏞️, a little paradise of biodiversity, take the time to enjoy a multitude of viewpoints to see the Var in multiple dimensions. You’ll breathe in the air of this authentic countryside 🌾. And since all roads lead to Rome, these two routes of 21.1 km and 42.2 km lead you right into the heart of Brignoles. 💚

What’s more, the event has a green side in keeping with its name 😅. Indeed, the organizers have put in place several eco-responsible actions ♻️ such as waste reduction 🚮, the setup of shuttles 🚌, and the distribution of reusable cups. Green thumb and green heart here! But that’s not all: the organization is also putting together a crazy atmosphere 🤪. In a friendly, good-natured vibe, music groups 🥁 along the course will carry you and help you push all the way to the end of your effort. There will also be a Marathon Village in Brignoles and a “Marathon Party” on Sunday, with a DJ and a band. So, shall we dance! 🕺

After the race, discovering the Var wouldn’t be complete without a detour to Toulon and its famous harbor, as well as Hyères and its seaside 🌊. Otherwise, nearby you can visit Thoronet Abbey or the Basilica of Saint-Maximin-la-Sainte-Baume ✝️. And when it comes to culinary specialties 🍽️, the Brignoles prune is a true institution, just like lavender honey 🍯, olive oil 🫒, and goat cheese 🐐. It smells like sunshine! ☀️

The Marathon Var Provence Verte is trail running in its complete version! 😉

4 reasons to join this race

Feels like the South ☀️
A trail through the Var’s natural beauty is not to be missed. Under the May sunshine, you’ll run through landscapes worthy of the finest Paul Cézanne paintings, a great lover of Provence 🌿. Lavender fields, endless olive groves, wine estates—you’ll love exploring every inch of the Parc naturel régional de la Sainte-Baume. In the end, maybe we really are in the South? 😎
For the planet 🌎
Besides being a race packed with greenery, the Marathon Var Provence Verte is also a “green marathon”. In fact, you’ll quickly notice the actions put in place by the organization for their event. Carpooling, shuttles, removal of plastic cups… In short, gestures and initiatives for a more eco-responsible event 🍀.
Easy does it 😎
Even if the distances might scare you, the elevation gain is never excessive. We’re still looking out for your little heart ❤️. You’ll find about 200 mD+ on the half and more than 300 mD+ on the Marathon. The trails and paths you’ll take are very accessible, with no real traps. If you want to see more steep slopes, head for the 26 km and its 900 mD+ 🤪.
Party in the village 🎉
Another thing that makes the event stand out among so many others is its truly unique atmosphere. In an authentic and friendly vibe, you’ll feel right at home 🐟. Music will be the watchword throughout the event. Along your route, you’ll hear plenty of bands of all kinds. And after your race on Saturday evening, you’ll get a DJ and a band—nothing less! 🎺

A few more words

A true marathon distance for a trail run more natural than ever. A maratrail, in a way… 🤔

It’s a new city-to-city route that awaits you for the event’s longest distance. Your start line is set in front of the Chateauvert Contemporary Art Center. Head toward the La Gayolle wine estate, where your first aid station will be at kilometer 8. No, there won’t be wine on offer at the aid station—you’ve still got to be a bit reasonable 😝. Anyway, get back on the road for a few kilometers before crossing the Cassède bridge and passing near the Saint-Probace Chapel. Next up is your second aid station at kilometer 15 and a first pass through Tourves, where you’ll see its sublime Château de Valbelle. If you didn’t really have time to admire it, don’t worry—you’ll be back in town soon enough. Indeed, you head out for a loop of about ten kilometers in the surrounding countryside. Time to stop at another aid station at kilometer 21 and cross the Mazaugues bridge, and here you are back in Tourves. From there, steer starboard for 12 kilometers to reach the Gaou garden in the heart of Brignoles. 🏁

All good? It wasn’t the sea in the Var, was it? 🌊
