Brittany offers runners who come to tread its paths all its beauty and richness 🏞️. Known for its beautiful landscapes, this region is also filled with steep mountains that you're sure to love if you're a fan of elevation gain 📈. A little detour close to the ocean, feet in the sand or in the nature of the north 🧭, there is something for everyone. If the region is one of the most generous for running, this is particularly true for trail running! A Breton overview wouldn't hurt 🙃.
Those who know Brittany know it well, the trails are numerous and often beautiful on this land 🌸. You can start with the most famous one: the custom officers' path, also known as the GR34! 2000 kilometers of coastline 🌊 and paths by the sea between the Mont Saint Michel (shhh, it's in Normandy...) and Saint Nazaire! Rocky cliffs 🪨, dunes, beaches, marshes await you... The wildlife and flora will delight you with their colors throughout the seasons of the year 💐. Those of the Emerald Coast (Saint Malo) gave it its name and are worth your detour. Further on, the Pink Granite Coast 🩷 near Lannion... The tip of Finistère, often swept by winds 💨, will make you feel the full power of the Atlantic facing you. Brest is a unique city that will leave you with good memories 💭.
The 4 departments each have their own charm and unique identities. The Côtes d’Armor, the Finistère, Ille-et-Vilaine and the Morbihan are not alike, and their inhabitants will tell you the same! ❌ That is the charm of Brittany. One thing in common: the ocean! 🐟 The 4 prefectural cities will be your landmarks during your journey. Between your runs, you can regain your strength (with some galette 🥧) in Quimper, Saint-Brieuc, Rennes and Vannes. With a little shot of sparkling cider! 🥂 It might warm you up, as the wind and rain 🌧 are frequent visitors in the region, although local legends suggest the regular presence of the sun ☀️. Southern Brittany is known to be milder than Northern Brittany in this regard. Among the must-sees, the Gulf of Morbihan and its miniature inland sea are worth exploring in every direction. Trail runners will certainly be attracted by the idea of exploring the wild lands of all the islands or peninsulas in the region, and there are many: Bréhat Island, Ouessant, Île aux Moines, Belle-île, Glénan Archipelago, Crozon Peninsula... You'll find a bit of elevation and vertical climb in Brittany thanks to the gentle heights of the Armorican Massif that extends inland throughout the region. And when you need beaches 🏖, they will never be far away!

The race names? “Merlin”, “Grail”, “Excalibur”... Evocative, isn't it?! 🧐 In the Finistère, to be exact in Fouesnant, the Offshore Race is a short trail by the seaside 🏝️. In the Côtes-d’Armor, the Glazig Trail is an unmissable race that starts from Plourhan. Several thousand participants run this really fun event every year, especially if you don't know this corner of Brittany and its natural beauties. Many distances and a children's race 🧒 are offered.
