Hot like Breton

Brittany offers runners who come to tread its soil all its beauty and richness. If the region is one of the most generous in running, this is especially true for trails! Overview of Brittany.

Those who know Brittany are aware that the trails are numerous and often quite beautiful on this land. We can start with the most famous: the Customs Officers' Path, aka the GR34! 2000 kilometers of coastline and trails by the sea between Mont Saint Michel (shhh, it’s in Normandy…) and Saint Nazaire! To you, the rocky points, the dunes, the beaches, the marshes... The fauna and flora will delight you with their colors all year round. Those of the Emerald Coast (Saint Malo) gave it its name and are worth a visit. Further on, the Pink Granite Coast isn't left out, near Lannion… The tip of Finistère, often swept by the winds, will make you feel the full power of the Atlantic in front of you. Brest is a unique city that will leave you with good memories. The 4 departments each have their own charms and identities. The Côtes d'Armor, Finistère, Ille-et-Vilaine and Morbihan are not alike and their inhabitants would not tell you otherwise! It's all the charm of Brittany. One thing in common: the ocean! The 4 prefecture cities will be your landmarks during your journey. Between your runs, you can recharge (with pancakes, of course) in Quimper, Saint-Brieuc, Rennes and Vannes. With a little shot of cider! This one might warm you up; wind and rain 🌧 are frequent in the region, although local legends suggest the regular presence of the sun ☀️. Southern Brittany is known to be milder than Northern Brittany in this respect. Among the must-sees, the Gulf of Morbihan and its mini inland sea are to be explored in all directions. Trail enthusiasts will inevitably be drawn to the idea of exploring the wild lands of all the islands or peninsulas in the region, and they are numerous: Bréhat Island, Ouessant, Île-aux-Moines, Belle-Île, the Glénan Archipelago, the Crozon Peninsula... You'll find some relief and elevation in Brittany thanks to the gentle heights of the Armorican Massif that stretches inland throughout the region. And when you need beaches 🏖, they will never be far away!

Don't believe us? Lace up your shoes, put on your raincoat, and come face one of the many trails in Brittany: the race calendar is packed! If Brittany is an immutable territory, let's start with the Trail of the Legends of Brocéliande in the heart of the region, in the middle of the forests, where you will follow in the footsteps of Merlin the Enchanter… The names of the races? “Merlin”, “Grail”, “Excalibur”… Evocative, right?! In the Finistère, in Fouesnant to be precise, the Offshore Race is a short trail by the sea. In the Côtes-d’Armor, the Glazig Trail is an unmissable race starting in Plourhan. Several thousand participants run this delightful event every year, especially if you don't know this part of Brittany and its natural beauties. Many distances and a children's race are offered. Still in the Côtes-d'Armor, near Saint Brieuc, in the charming village of Moncontour, the Menestrail awaits you! The perfect opportunity to breathe in the fresh air of the local forests 🌲. Another trail in Brittany? Let's head to the “little sea” (Mor Bihan)! The Ultra Marin Raid Gulf of Morbihan is part of the UTMB World Series. Short trail, long trail and ultra trail on the program of this great event, offering relay formats and over several days... Since you need everything to make a trail world, let's head to the city and Rennes, for the Rennes Urban Trail. Discover the capital of Brittany (sorry, Nantes residents 😄 we didn't want to reignite the debate) and its medieval charms! Let's return to the coast after this urban episode... the World's End Trail (Finistère) is your chance to join friends or family on a race offering cliffs and beaches, for the best of the seaside! To allow you to share these pleasures, a duo race is offered by the organizers. An ultra trail in Brittany? Just take a look at the Brittany Ultra Trail in Clohars-Carnoët. Three race formats await you, including a night ultra trail! You'll tell us all about it... In the north of Brittany, a top-notch city-to-city race is not to be missed: La Passagère, which runs between Dinan and Saint Malo. A charming spot... with the ramparts of Saint Malo to discover! We warned you that the trail calendar in Brittany was packed...
