"Why, the mountains are so beeaaautiful"" 🏔️
Like Jean Ferrat, we're taking you to the station of Val Thorens, in les Belleville, for an 11th edition of the Val Tho Summit Games that will really get your thighs burning 💥. In the heart of Savoie, this August appointment is the perfect cocktail to spice up your trail 🌶️. It's here, in Europe's highest station, that the expression “having your head in the clouds” truly takes on its meaning ☁️. We forget the heatwaves of the valleys to seek the coolness of the permafrost between 1,850 m and 3,000 m altitude 🏔️.
In total, 7 distances await you 🥵. First, there's the VT Speed 3200 with its 1,000 mD+ concentrated over only 4.9 km, which establishes itself as the vertical kilometer in its most direct form 👊. For beginners, the VT Trail Pursuit 10 km is the ideal discovery trail to test yourself with an accessible elevation gain of 500 mD+ 📈. Runners who like bursts will prefer the VT Trail Pursuit 20 km and its 1,000 mD+, because between sharp ascents and technical descents, you navigate among different lakes for maximum visual pleasure 😍. The main event remains the VT Trail Pursuit 42 km which showcases 2,200 mD+ on a demanding course leading to the foot of the Péclet glacier while discovering the Lac Blanc, of Thorens, du Lou, or even the plan d'eau des Bruyères 🚣. This same epic adventure of 42 km and 2,200 mD+ can be done in relay to share the effort and maximize the pleasure in a team of 4 on the station's most iconic course 🤝. The future champions also have their place with the VT Trail Kids which offers distances and elevation gains adapted to the young for their first challenges to gain confidence on the champions' trails 🧒. Finally, the VT Family Fun Walk of 6 km offers a panoramic visit by lifts with more than 10 unique animation points for young and old 🤪. It's the guarantee of cascading smiles and unforgettable memories before tackling the Savoyard snacks for all participants 🥖.
Here, the atmosphere is not just about performance; it's about sharing 🫂. We are at an event that is experienced intensely, whether you're a lone wolf seeking D+ on the VT Speed 3200 or a team of 4 ready to impress on the VT Trail Pursuit 42 in relay 4️⃣. The international station of Val Thorens goes all out to provide you with a sumptuous setting where effort becomes a permanent visual pleasure 🤩. Be warned, the courses sometimes skim the 3,000 meters altitude, which will likely leave you breathless 🥵.
And then what? In summer, the mountains of Val Thorens turn into epic hikes you will remember for a long time 🚠. Follow the Montagnette trail from the village, guaranteed favorite 😍. "Ppfff I've already given enough, I don't feel like walking!" Ok, we have the solution ☝️. After your trail, your legs will beg you for a break 🙏. Head to Le Board, the station's iconic sports center 💅. Between swimming pools, a wellness space (sauna, hammam, jacuzzi), and squash courts, it’s the ideal spot for pro-like recovery 🧖♂️.
So, ready to tackle the demanding Tarentaise mountains? 🚀
Here is the main feature of the event, a titanic mountain marathon 😵. With 2,200 mD+, this demanding course is a true odyssey that takes you to the foot of the Péclet Glacier and up to the Lac Blanc at 2,749 m 🥇. You will reach the summit of the 3 Valleys at 2,800 m, offering a breathtaking panoramic view, and even cross the Cosmo Jet sledging track. 🎢 The route links mythical sites: Lac de la Portette, Les 2 Lacs, La Moutière and the superb Lac du Lou, finishing at the plan d'eau des Bruyères 🌊. Individually, it's a mental and physical challenge where every kilometer tells a story of courage in the face of the elements 🦁. You'll return to the resort with images in your head and the feeling of having accomplished something unique 🏆.
Relay 1: 10.3 km, 787 mD+
Relay 2: 13.1 km, 432 mD+
Relay 3: 7.4 km, 334 mD+

We get down to business with this challenging route that requires good effort management and a strong dose of stamina 🏃♂️. With 1,000 mD+, you navigate between the various high-altitude lakes, going from the 2 lakes at 2,377 m to the la Moutière area perched at 2,500 m. 📈 The highlight remains the passage by the lac du Lou at 2,051 m, a wild and preserved place that seems straight out of an adventure movie 🎥. It's a nervy course, alternating steep climbs and technical descents where you must stay clear-headed to avoid surprises 🧠.
This discovery trail is the ideal introduction for those who want to experience high altitude without too much struggle 😅. With 500 mD+, the course is accessible but full of flair, taking you to discover gems like the Portette Lake nestled at 2,627 m. 💧 It's the perfect opportunity to test your cardio on varied terrain, between easy trails and more technical sections under the watchful eye of the peaks ⛰️. You'll also pass by the 2 lakes at 2,377 m, offering turquoise reflections that will almost make you forget the effort 😍. We are here to have fun, enjoy the panorama, and soak in the mountain spirit of Val Thorens 🤩.
The Family Fun Walk of 6 km is the perfect plan 🚠. Thanks to the ski lifts, you can access the views without getting tired, with more than 10 unique activity points to punctuate the walk 🎈.
