Don't worry, we're not going to talk about soccer ⚽️ or even less about a stroll through the aisles of a furniture store 🛌 but about the BUT, the Béziers Urban Trail in Hérault, in the Occitanie region. Known for its heritage and climate, Béziers is highly appreciated by tourists. The city benefits from a strategic geographical location between the Mediterranean Sea 🌊 and the Haut Languedoc mountains ⛰.
We invite you to discover the oldest town in France dating from 625 BC through a race with a festive and convivial atmosphere! An event not to be missed every year in the month of October. At this time of year 🍁, the temperatures are usually still mild in the city, boasting more than 300 days of sunshine per year ☀️ (and yes, no need to go to Miami to have sun during All Saints' Day 🤷♀️).
The organizers offer you five distances: a 10 km hike and trails of 10 km, 16 km, and 24 km. The big novelty this year: the 42 km! 🤩 And yes, all that was missing was a marathon to make the event perfect. There's something for everyone with rather accessible distances, then! Surely you can imagine, each event has its arguments: the longer the distance, the more you will discover the city and its secrets. No matter the distance you choose, your journey will start on the Allées Paul Riquet before exploring old Béziers, which has a rich (very rich indeed) historical heritage.
Time for Finishers' advice: keep your eyes wide open, because the monuments will unfold for you as the kilometers pass 👀. If you've never set foot in Béziers, you will be won over by its charming historical center. You can admire the Haussmannian façades of the mansions, the imposing Saint-Nazaire Cathedral and walk along the Canal du Midi 🏞 with its 9 locks of Fonseranes classified as World Heritage by UNESCO as well as its channel bridge of 240 m long spanning the Orb. No doubt your passages in the greenery of Jardin de la Plantade, as well as in the Arenas and lastly, the Poets' Garden Plateau, will bring a touch of green to your heart 💚. You will also have the chance to cross the Pont Neuf and follow the banks of the Orb, a coastal river that crosses the city and meets the Canal du Midi. Finally, your spectacular finish on the Jean Jaurès Square will conclude your beautiful journey 💥. The little extra of the Béziers Urban Trail? You'll roam through secret gardens opened especially for the race. Oh yes, we almost forgot... numerous stairs' ascents and descents will add a little spice to your event, but it's necessary to reach the parks and monuments that define Béziers. As for the elevation, it's still generally manageable (twice less intense than in Lyon if you needed a comparison point).
So take a journey to the department's second city after Montpellier. Just 10 km from the sea 🌊, does a post-race dip sound appealing? Continue the tour with regional specialties like petit pâtés and the traditional Pézenas berlingots. There's also the sardinade, but be careful of your breath afterwards! Finally, the la biterroise, this delicious golden brioche sprinkled with sugar, will delight your taste buds and add a sweet note!
You can trust us, this trail is worth all the Orb in the world. So come and show your sense of purpose, the Béziers Urban Trail is waiting for you to conclude! 🎯
24 km is an ideal distance to fully experience the Urban Trail, a slight elevation but it's mostly a fairly smooth course awaiting you! 🏃♂️
Among the wonders you will admire along your route, there's the historic center. The Urban Trail of Béziers will then take you to the north and east of the city (it's this year's beautiful novelty 🍀). You will have the chance to climb to the top of the Arenas, after which you will visit secret gardens, a bar, a nightclub, or the Sauclières stadium. A course offering you a great wealth of diverse landscapes and terrains, what a boon! 😍
But the game always needs a bit of spicing up: that's why the organizers have placed a few stairs on the way to get your legs burning! 🔥 Indeed, many sites (public and private) will open their doors to you on this occasion! But the highlight of the show will probably be the passage of the "Béziers green" 🍏 along the banks of the Orb and the Canal du Midi! There you will see the famous 9 Locks of Fonseranes, classified as a Unesco World Heritage Site!
This is a perfect distance for runners looking to exert themselves, enjoy, explore, and without overexertion!
With this distance, you'll have the chance to explore the Old Béziers and the northern and eastern parts of this Biterroise city. Of course, you'll also need to climb to the top of the Arenas and cross many unique sites 😁.
Just like the 24 km, you'll enjoy a path with varied terrain and scenery, strolling through secret gardens, staircases, a bar, a nightclub, the Halles, the Town Hall, or along the banks of the Orb... 🌊
With 9 km and 200 mD+, this race is the smallest and most accessible of the competition. "Race"? What am I saying? This Urban Trail!
This distance offers the perfect blend expected for this type of race: the crossing of an old city with a rich historical heritage, crossings of sites exceptionally open on the race day (Jardin des Evêques, former Palace of Justice, schools, bar, nightclub, brewery… 🍻) and a series of ups and downs and stairs to spice up the adventure! You'll even find some greenery 🌿, like in other trails thanks to the parks and the banks of the Orb that are on the course.
This is a distance that proves the BUT aims to bring together and welcome as many people as possible... even non-runners! As you might expect, the course is identical to that of the 9 km runners. Neither too technical nor too steep, you can do this distance solo, with friends, or with family 👨👩👦👦.
