Hey there, valiant gladiator! 🤺 Did you know that all roads lead to the Gard? No, we haven’t lost our Latin: in the month of November, a cohort of centurions, legionaries, and other emperors invade the region for the Veni Vici. They are crazy, these Finishers! 🤪
In the heart of the off-season, the empire of Uzès once again hosts the mythical Veni Vici 💪, a race guaranteed to offer an escape. In the Occitan lands, you will travel back 2,000 years in history, following in the footsteps of our ancestors with extraordinary creative genius, as you head towards Nîmes 🏛️. Nemausus, its ancient name, or the "French Rome" as it’s now nicknamed, has preserved intact traces of its rich Roman past. Notably, the arena where you are summoned for your battle: the Nîmes aqueduct. This remarkable Roman monument houses an equally magnificent masterpiece, the Pont du Gard, which you will have the chance to explore at your running pace 😍. A charismatic bimillennial structure, protected territory, and pleasant temperatures set the stage. This backdrop attracted over 7,000 participants from 36 different countries. Do you have any excuse not to say you came, you saw, and you conquered? 🤔
You who appreciate things done right will easily recognize that this event is not made of the same wood cut from the same stone as others 😏. With the Pont du Gard as the common denominator for all paths, you will travel the axis that makes the region’s residents proud: Uzès - Pont du Gard - Nîmes. The program includes 6 formats set in this ancient scene, enough to satisfy all types of gladiators ⚔️: an 82 km trail (2,200 mD+), a 48 km trail (1,250 mD+), a 27 km course (700 mD+) to be done as a race or Nordic walking, a 16 km trail (420 mD+) to be completed while running and finally a 14 km hike (320 mD+) 👏. No matter which distance you choose, you can thank life, sing life, dance life, as your race will treat you to a monumental setting! 🤩
The empire our ancestors left us in the heart of the Gard is unimaginably rich, and you will quickly realize this as you stride along 🏃♂️. Prepare for a race with a thousand faces 🎭, at the heart of which city, nature, villages, and Roman remains coexist to form a harmonious and unforgettable tableau. Fully immersed in the Gard scrubland 🌿, the variety of landscapes on display will leave you speechless: dirt paths, streams, rocky trails 🪨 (be careful with your ankles though), and pine forests will complete this beautiful picture 🤤. You'll stretch your strides within a dense and contrasting Mediterranean vegetation. You'll run (or walk) through an environment of green oak forests 🌲, the emblematic tree of the region, and wild, fragrant plants such as thyme or honeysuckle 🌞. Not to mention the vineyards 🍇 and olive groves 🫒, which will definitely transport you to the South 🏖️. You'll discover an exceedingly rich historical and cultural heritage, especially if you choose the longest distance. Traversing the Nîmes aqueduct in its entirety (yes, yes... you read that right!), the Vallée d’Eure will unveil its typical welcoming stone-built villages 🏘️, such as Saint-Maximin, Argilliers, or Vers-Pont du Gard (we’ll stop here, we don't want to reveal everything). Passing by the Vers stone quarries, you’ll see where the stones used to build the Pont du Gard, the very one you've been eagerly awaiting ⏳, were extracted. Standing 49 meters high with its three superimposed arcs, it will proudly rise along your path, rich with its 2,000-year existence. And as if that weren't enough, your historical journey will conclude in the heart of Roman Nîmes. Nemausus will offer you an unforgettable finish, between descending Les Jardins de la Fontaine, encountering the Tour Magne, viewing the Maison Carrée (listed just last year as a UNESCO World Heritage Site), and concluding your journey at the famous arenas 🏛️ which will mark the end of your adventure with a grand flourish 🌳. However, don't get too used to the order in which you’ll discover all these architectural masterpieces, as each year, the course may change direction! Each edition brings new surprises and passages 🎁.
Alright, the race is over, but nothing prevents you from spending a few more hours immersed in the Roman era 🏺. You’ve understood, there’s no need to go far when you're in Nîmes, to delve into the Roman remains, particularly abundant in this city 😉. The Nîmes arenas are a must-see and will definitely transport you to Italy. It's impossible to leave here without admiring the Maison carrée, whose preservation is breathtaking. And for the promised feast for one-day gladiators, we recommend the typical cod brandade accompanied by a drizzle of olive oil and a piece of Pélardon 🧀.
So, grab your finest toga and a small pouch of sesterces, and come shout your best Veni Vidi Vici at the foot of the Pont du Gard! 🚩
The 82 km will be THE queen distance of the Veni Vici. It is enriched by 10 km to offer some great new features 😍. You will have a full ascent of the Roman aqueduct, starting at the Fontaine d'Eure in Uzès ⛲.
The race will start from the legendary Nîmes Arena 🏛️, directly immersing you into the scene! 🌟 The start will give you no respite, as the climbs won't wait for the end, so we hope you're ready for an exciting beginning 💪. A little tip, keep your feet on the ground 👟, but also your eyes wide open 👀, because this race is a museum-turned-tourist-attraction 🖼️. You will discover the magnificent Jardins de la Fontaine, and you might even meet the hare and the tortoise or the cicada and the ant, who knows? 🤠 As you continue your journey, you will dive into the heart of the Gard trails where climbs, descents, and more climbs await you—in short, the ingredients of a successful trail 😋. Speaking of tourist strolls, you'll make a little detour through the charming villages of Cabrières and Lédenon. Then, if you think you see the end of the tunnel, well, it's not yet the moment, you'll even enter right into it 😎. Welcome to the underground tunnels of Sernhac 🔦, you can still see the pickaxe marks, witnesses of the past of these relics 🔨. You will quickly approach the symbol of the race, the famous Pont Du Gard, traversed by valiant Roman soldiers over 2,000 years ago! 🫣 You will even have the chance, after that, to skirt the quarries where the stones used to build the Pont du Gard were extracted! 🪨 A few more passages through small Gard villages like Saint-Maximim 📍. Final strides in the Vallée de l'Eure will bring you closer to Uzès, where you will cross the finish line 🏁. Congratulations to you, you are a finisher, and that is fantastic! 🥇
This 48 km will be the perfect compromise to discover the Veni Vici. An "marathon" distance between the full 82 km (which might be daunting for some) and the 27 km that others may find a bit too short 🤏.
With a magnificent and historic start from the Arènes de Nîmes at 10:30 ⌚️, you'll enter directly into the heart of the matter 🔥.
The course will be very similar to the 82 km 🤗, participants will discover the symbols of the Gardois cultural landscape such as Les Jardins de la Fontaine, the Tour Magne... 😍 There will be many variations, you'll experience thrills with the numerous ascents and descents, but that’s what makes trail running great, right? 😎 Your path will continue, you'll pass through the Sernhac underground tunnels, also passing by the castle of Lédenon and Cabrières 🏰. It's a real museum race, you'll be dazzled the whole way! 📸 Once past the tunnel, you'll reach the ridges and you might even catch a glimpse of Mont-Ventoux ⛰️. The final stretch through Saint-Bonnet-Du-Gard to see the star of the day: the Pont du Gard 🌉. Finally, correction, to see the stars of the day because you will celebrate your finish at the foot of this giant! 🏁
The 27 km will be the ideal compromise for those who are not yet ready to undertake the full Veni Vici (82 km) or the 48 km! 🦵
The grand start will be from the majestic Pont du Gard at 2:30 PM. Your route will begin with a passage near the remains of the Roman aqueduct 🏛️. Then head towards the charming town of Vers-Pont-du-Gard which will lead you to the quarries where the famous stones of the Pont du Gard were extracted 🪨. By the way, by taking part in this race, we can say you're contributing your stone to the building 😉. Open your eyes wide and take a deep breath because you'll pass right through fragrant fields of thyme and rosemary 🌿. Enjoy and take in everything you can because the end of the race is near ⌛. The runners will head towards the Vallée de l'Eure, followed by a beautiful climb towards the castle of Uzès. It is here, at the foot of the castle, that the champions will cross the finish line under the starry sky! 🌠
On the same route as the runners, these 27 kilometers from the Pont du Gard to Uzès 🌉. At a slightly slower pace, you will have the opportunity to take a little more time to admire the jewels handed down by our ancestors.
If you're not yet ready to swallow dozens of kilometers like a centurion on a mission, this distance of 16 kilometers will be perfect for you! 🙏 The smallest trail of the event, it hasn't been overlooked as its route has been mapped all around the magnificent Pont du Gard 🔥. You will start at the foot of this imposing monument to finish at the heights and admire this doubly millennial structure from a bit higher up 🤩.
This hike, ideal for a family audience, is a perfect way to discover the most iconic part of the aqueduct of Nîmes, created in the 1st century. To be done solo, with friends or family, open to everyone from 7 years old! 😌
On a unique hiking trail that highlights the environment of the Pont du Gard site, you'll enjoy a real sports course (320 mD+) 🏃♀️, a bit more rolling and less technical than the 16 km run 🥵.
