The event in a few words

Looking for a superb nature 🌳 race, along the shores of one of the most beautiful lakes in Europe 🚣, featuring sections through picturesque villages 🥰 and a fast, flowing course with low elevation gain? Look no further! 🙅 We’ve got just what you need with the Sources of Lake Annecy Half Marathon, which will take place at the end of September! 🍁 An event not to be missed under any circumstances! 👇

Let’s start with a bit of geography 🗺️. Your adventure begins in the south of Lake Annecy, in Doussard to be precise 📍. Your mission, should you choose to accept it 🕵️‍♂️: set off to discover the Sources of the Lake (as the race name suggests, of course 😌). Indeed, the routes focus on the southern part of the lake, called the "Little Lake", which is the least well-known, but often described by locals as "the most beautiful and the wildest" (but of course, we’ll let you make up your own mind 😉).

Between the Semnoz mountains to the west and La Tournette to the east, you’re going to be blown away 🤩. Especially at this time of year, at the start of Indian summer, the water of Lake Annecy and the mountain slopes ⛰️ dotted with maples 🍯, beeches and other fir trees 🌲 warmed by the sun 🌞 dress themselves in sublime colors 😍. Two distances are available to you, and they’re no small feat: a 10 km and the now-classic half marathon 😎.

Once your race is over ☑️, you’ll be able to enjoy all the pleasures that Annecy and its lake 🌊 have to offer, starting with a visit to the National Nature Reserve at the end of Lake Annecy 🦔🦉, located a stone’s throw from Doussard. You can also enjoy one of the many walks, on foot or by bike, that will let you discover all the curiosities of this little corner of paradise 🤤. If you prefer using two wheels 🏍️, don’t be surprised to come across the famous Brédannaz Locomotive, along the cycle path 🚴, a reminder of the old railway line 🚆 linking Annecy to Albertville.

Is the post-race program a bit too sporty for you? 😅 No problem. We can also win you over by speaking the language of food lovers 🧀. A crozets gratin accompanied by a Mondeuse de Savoie (to be enjoyed in moderation, of course), in one of the local restaurants—does that sound more like it? 🍷

Come oooon, say yes! Annecy! 🎶

4 reasons to join this race

A lake with two faces 🛶
Lake Annecy is made up of two parts: the Grand Lake, north of Duingt, is the best-known part 🚣; it is navigable all year round, while the Little Lake, in the south, still has its steep and wild environment 🌿. This section of the lake is also much less known (except to locals)! Wondering which part you’ll get to discover during your Half? Easy: both! 😎
Elevation gain isn’t invited 🏃‍♂️
The organizers offer you a half with very little elevation gain (100m D+) that favors performance, all in an environment that blends nature and town! 💪 If you’re looking for steep slopes, don’t hesitate—after your performance—to head out hiking in the mountains surrounding the lake 🏞️.
Smile, you’re being photographed 📸
Like a rock star, you’ll be photographed all along your course.⚡ So when you cross the finish line, make sure your bib is clearly visible... And of course, pick your best angle 😉.
Gastronomy 🥘
You expected it. And we can’t ignore it. What would Savoie be without its legendary, mouthwatering cuisine? No need to introduce the incredible dishes that make us drool every winter: raclette, tartiflette, fondue... 🫕 A well-earned post-race reward.

A few more words

Your half marathon will invite you onto a smooth-starting route 🏃‍♀️ for a flat, enjoyable race to watch 👀. In fact, all along the course, you’ll be tempted to turn your head to see the expanse of water glide by before your eyes... But watch out for a stiff neck! 😬 Several stages will set the rhythm for your strides during this half.

You’ll begin your journey in Doussard, south of the lake and north of the Massif des Bauges Regional Nature Park 🌳, to be precise. From there, you’ll take the famous greenway 🌿 (one of the oldest in France 🤓). It will have you running alongside the lake and will take you near the beaches 🏖️ as well as through the heart of the small nearby villages 🥰.

After leaving Doussard, you’ll quickly join the Annecy road to head to the town of Duingt. There, you’ll see the famous castle 🏰 from which you’ll have a breathtaking view of the stretch of water surrounding it 💧. By the way, the castle can’t be visited. So the half marathon is the best way to see it from every angle 😉. Your pass through Duingt will also be marked by a crossing of the town center 🌆. You’ll then see that it’s not for nothing that this village is nicknamed "the pearl of the lake". A quick culture note: this village is also the boundary between the small lake and the big lake 😏. Then you’ll push on to Saint-Jorioz, its beaches 🏝️, its harbor ⚓ and its natural environment.

Once you arrive in Saint-Jorioz, keep your eyes wide open. You might catch a glimpse of Château de Menthon Saint Bernard on the other side of the shore. You’ll have only 10 km left to cover. On the way back, you’ll take the greenway again, after one last pass through Duingt 🏔.

PS : if you’re lucky, you might just be lucky enough to spot the local stars, the European beavers 🦫. Let’s just hope they don’t build dams in your way 🤣.
