The month of November, the cold 🥶, the grayness, the sagging morale... ☹️
How about a little sunshine, some Italian warmth, and a bit of summer vacation air? 🌞 Then pack your suitcase and catch the first flight to Sicily! 🇮🇹 Don't forget your sneakers because once you're there, a big event awaits you: the Palermo Marathon (or Maratona di Palermo)! 😎 Friendly atmosphere, motivated runners, and pizza at the finish line, that's your weekend program 🤤. Not too bad, right? But before that, you'll set out to conquer the beautiful Sicilian, a city marked by history by the Tyrrhenian Sea 🌊.
This road race is one of the best guided tours of Palermo! 🤗 We still don't understand why it's not offered all year round 🤷♀️. You'll be among the few privileged ones, proving that running has its perks! 😜 You will still need to choose the length of your visit: marathon or half marathon 🤓. And because in Italy sharing is valued, the marathon can also be run in relays! So start calling your friends, you have a marathon to complete 😜. And what a marathon! Seaside, typical architecture, energetic atmosphere at every turn... 🥳 The organizers have crafted their best pizza Sicilian marathon style for you! 🍕 To finish in beauty, the finish line will be none other than the Piazza Ruggero Settimo, with the Teatro Politeama, worthy of a painting by Da Vinci! 🤩 This dream setting apparently gives wings: in 2024, Masai Gilbert triumphed in 2h 14min 09s, one of the fastest times ever recorded at the Palermo Marathon 🤯. Don't forget to start your watch at the start, you'll surely beat your previous personal record in Palermo! ⏱️
After celebrating your victory and proudly wearing your medal 🥇, it's time to relax! What better way to relax your legs than a short walk? 👀 The "City of Delights" doesn't lack monuments to entertain you 🏛️. Here, delights are just as much for the eyes as for the taste buds! 😋 Mount Pellegrino, Palermo Cathedral, Piazza Pretoria, Palace of the Normans, and Palace of Zisa—you won't know which to start with 🤪. Once you have discovered every corner of Palermo, your stomach will surely be craving food 🍽️. So enough with the monuments, let's hit the restaurants! On the menu: arancini, panelle, cannoli, and to top it off, a brioche filled with gelato... 🥰 Don't eat too much, or you might leave rolling 😅.
The city of Palermo awaits you eagerly! 💪 Its marathon holds many secrets only runners can discover 🤫.
The Palermo Marathon kicks off at Piazza Ruggero Settimo and its iconic Teatro Politeama!
A slight incline will get you warmed up until you reach km 5 at the Parco della Favorita 🌳. You'll circle this green oasis in the heart of the city! Keep your eyes peeled for the Chinese Palace and the Villa Niscemi along the way. Once you're out of the park, you'll make a detour to see New York's iconic Statue of Liberty... 🗽 Gotcha! 😬 No need for a transatlantic trip, because Palermo has its very own statue! You'll then move on to a long straight path leading to the Palchetto Della Musica. And because Palermo boasts more than one monument, you'll pass close to the Teatro Massimo, the Cathedral, and the Palazzo dei Normanni. It will then be time to complete the loop and head back to the Teatro Politeama! 🎭
Didn't catch all the amazing city architecture? No worries, you've only completed the first loop; there's another one waiting for you to finish your 42.195 km! 🤪
The relay race follows the same route as the marathon 🤓.
For the Half Marathon, you'll be enjoying the same loop as the marathon runners! 😜
You can collect your bib at the Maratona Expo, Piazza Castelnuovo, on Friday 13 and Saturday 14 November 2026 from 10:00 am to 7:30 pm.

You must be at least 20 years old to take part.
Marathon: 5h30
Half Marathon: 2h40
No, you will be asked to sign a liability waiver when you pick up your bib. It will be sent to you a few days before race day. For the competitive category, a medical certificate and a RunCard will be required.
As an international runner, you can enter the non-competitive category. That way, you won’t need to provide a medical certificate or a RunCard. You’ll simply need to fill out a liability waiver on site when you collect your bib.
For reference, 99% of international runners choose the non-competitive category. You’ll still get an official time and start in the same corrals as so-called competitive runners.
If you prefer, you can enter the competitive category instead. This category is mainly intended for Italian runners, elite athletes, and those aiming for a podium finish. You’ll receive an official time and be ranked in the competitive results list alongside Italian runners, athletes, and other competitive participants. To compete as a competitive athlete, you must provide a medical certificate. In addition to the medical certificate, you must provide either a 2025/2026 FFA licence or a RunCard. The RunCard is an Italian licence that costs €15 and allows runners who are not affiliated with an athletics federation to race in the competitive category. It can be purchased online at www.runcard.com.
If you’d like to learn more about the RunCard, click this link to read a detailed article explaining how it works for races.
