Run, climb, carry, run, lift, crawl, run, ascend, crossâŠ đ„” Now that is a race that makes you dream. Oh yes, the Spartan Zell am See-Kaprun doesnât mess around when it comes to effort. No room for that little âI donât feel like it, Iâm lazyâ momentâhere, motivation and grit will rule đ„. Youâre coming to crawl through the mud and tackle the obstacles đ§. The scene is set: weâre in the municipality of Kaprun, right in the heart of Austria, in the district of Zell am See. The weekend is pure madnessâperfect for fully enjoying the month of September đ. Well, if youâre going to do an obstacle race, you might as well do it with the world leader, right? Come onâcome become a true Spartan âïž.
Basically, Spartan is THE race that will make you shake off the dust, have fun, and push past your limits đ„. Fierce, tough, motivated, and determined: those are the qualities youâll need. Add to that: trail-style running and obstacles of all kinds. Starting to picture it? Do you know 300? You know, the movie about the Battle of Thermopylae, where they seem superhuman and valiant on every front? 𫥠Well, thatâll be a bit like you during this race. On the agenda: obviously running, but above all punctuated with original challenges. Donât be scared by the English names youâll seeâsince it originated in the United States, the obstacles all have English names! đșđž For example, the âBarbed tire crawlâ: a crossing under barbed wire đȘ; âthe Helixâ: climbing a slanted wall; or the âRope Climbâ, which will test your ability to climb a rope đȘą. In short, you quickly understand that youâll need real motivation to step up to the start line. Whether itâs to outdo yourself, prove something, or confirm what youâre made of, you definitely have a good reason to take on this challenge.
Of course, thereâs something for everyoneâespecially for all levels, so no excuses â. We start with the âSprintâ, explosive and quick: a 5 km race with 20 obstacles to clear. You can also raise the stakes with the âSuperâ, which sends you out on 10 km and 25 obstacles along the way. Finally, we move on to the legendary distances with the âBeastâ: a 21 km with 30 obstacles scattered throughout (thatâs quite the half marathonâŠ). Then, I guess there are still true Spartans on Earthâand theyâve clearly understood that đ€Ł. Thatâs why thereâs also the âUltra 50â format! Yes, yes, you read that right: 50 km, 60 obstacles, and 3,000 m of elevation gain đź. Oh yesâyour legs will definitely be burning by the end. Thereâs really a way to leave as a sports beast. We did say it was âfor everyone,â so you might as well test it from the youngest age with the "Kids Race" of 1 to 3 km with 10 to 20 obstacles! đŠ And by the way, with formats this crazy, you can do these races as a duo. Despite starting and finishing together, on the obstacles itâs only one of the two participants who will have to do them (itâs up to you whether you take turns đ€).
For this Austrian edition, the scenery is breathtaking. With routes laid out in the heart of the mountains, elevation will definitely be part of the deal (especially for the ultra đ”). But elevation also means magnificent panoramasâespecially of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. This Spartan course will be alpine and one of the toughest in Europe, so you may end up with some serious calf soreness... đŠ” Oh yesâcalling yourself a Spartan finisher has to be earned! âš To add an extra challenge, if within a calendar year (or in one weekend đ”âđ«) you finish a Sprint + Super + Beast, you can start collecting the Trifecta đ . A completely unique medal, assembled race by race. It will get you into an exclusive circle and, above all, forge a pure warrior mindset. Besides, to get it, youâd better take part in other races too! We recommend Spartan St.Pölten, Spartan Kulmbach, or Spartan Berlin. With that, youâll have plenty to kick off your collection đ„.
For this edition in Kaprun, the post-race is just as interesting as everything else đ. In this municipality, located right in the Pinzgau region in the state of Salzburg, thereâs plenty to keep you busy if the race wasnât enough (which it almost certainly will be đ«Ł). If the "Ultra 50" course will have a panoramic view of it, for the others, a tip: go check out the Kitzsteinhorn Glacier! This ski area in winter offers stunning landscapes đ€©. You can also swing by the reservoir and the Sigmund Thun Gorge. With all that, youâll have spent plenty of energyâand itâll obviously be time to recover. For that, nothing beats Kasnocken, a Schnitzel, or a real Apfelstrudel đ.
No time to slack offâthe Spartan is waiting for you, along with your motivation and warrior mindset đ.
A word from the organizer:
"Welcome to the Austrian Alps! Zell am See-Kaprun is not a race like the others: itâs the playground for Europeâs toughest Ultra and Beast course. Get ready to climb summits, tame the elevation, and push your limits with breathtaking views of the Kitzsteinhorn glacier. Whether youâre here for the monumental feat of the Ultra 50K, the Trifecta, or a mountain Sprint, this weekend will stay etched in your memory. Supported by our hydration partner Panaceo, come prove what youâre capable of. AROO !"
The Ultra 50, now thatâs an ultra-powerful challenge. The plan is simple (well, sort of đč): 50 km, 3,000 mD+ and 60 obstacles to conquer. Luckily, youâll have a magnificent landscapeâbecause given the effort youâre going to put in to finish it all, youâd better find some comfort somewhere... đ€ At this distance, the obstacles will all be very different, such as:
Thereâs a bit of everythingâeverything to push you to your limit and make you PUSH PAST IT! âïž
A half-marathon, yes, but not only đ«Ł. On top of that, we add a nice list of 30 obstacles to get through, to spice up the race a little. To give you an example, here are a few activities waiting for you:
In short, now all you have to do is get really, really, really prepared đ„”.
A 10 km is good, but with 25 obstacles on top, it sounds even better đ«Ą. We hope you totally agree with that statement, because look whatâs been prepared for you:
Oh yes, this is not a 10 km like youâre used to doing for your Sunday outing! đ€Ł
A 5 km sprint? Uh, yes, almostâjust with 20 obstacles in the middle... đ« For example:
Weâll give you thatâitâs a slightly special 5 km! đ„
Spartan therefore offers a format adapted for the youngest, with a 1 to 3 km race dotted with 10 to 20 obstacles đ§.
