Run, climb, carry, run, lift, crawl, run, climb, crossâŠ đ„” Now thatâs a race that makes you dream. Oh yes, Spartan Kulmbach doesnât really mess around when it comes to effort. No room here for that little âI donât feel like it, I canât be botheredâ momentâhere, motivation and grit will come first đ„. Forget the tourist clichĂ© with his suspenders and his pretzel; here, we come to crawl in the mud and tame the obstacles đ§. The scene is set: weâre in Bavaria, right in the heart of Germany, in Kulmbach, for a totally crazy weekend in June. Well, if youâre going to do an obstacle race, you might as well do it with the world leader, right? Come onâcome become a true Spartan âïž.
Basically, Spartan is THE race that will get you dirty, let you enjoy yourself, and push past your limits đ„. Fierce, strong, motivated, and determined: those are the qualities youâll need. Add to that: trail-style running and obstacles of every kind. Starting to picture it? Finally, 300âyou know, the film about the Battle of Thermopylae, where they seem superhuman and valiant on every front? 𫥠Well, thatâll be a bit like you during this race. On the agenda, of course, plenty of running, but above all punctuated with original challenges. Donât be scared by the English names youâll see: since it originated in the United States, the obstacles all have English-sounding names! đșđž For example, the â Barbed wire crawlâ: a crossing under barbed wire đȘ, the âhelixâ: climbing a slanted wall, or the âRope Climbâ: which will test your ability to climb a rope đȘą. In short, you quickly understand that youâll need serious motivation to take the start line. Whether itâs to push yourself, prove something, or confirm itâyou definitely have a good reason to take on this challenge.
Of course, thereâs something for everyoneâand above all for all levels, so no excuses â. We start with the âSprintâ, explosive and fast: a 5 km race with 20 obstacles to conquer. You can also double down with the âSuperâ, which throws you into 10 km of running and 25 obstacles along the course. Finally, we move on to the legendary distances with the âBeastâ: a 21 km and 30 obstacles scattered around (thatâs quite the half-marathonâŠ). Then again, it seems there are still true Spartans on earthâand they got that message loud and clear đ€Ł. Thatâs why thereâs also the âSpartan Hurricane Heatâ format: 4h, a pure endurance format and a fascinating exercise in pushing yourself. A weighted river crossing, navigation, crawling under barbed wire or through pure mud⊠đ« Thereâs really enough to come away feeling like a sports monster. We did say itâs â for everyone â, so you might as well test yourself from the youngest age with the "Kids Race" of 1 to 3 km with 10 to 20 obstacles! đŠ And by the way, with formats this wild, you also have the option to do these races as a duo. With a together start and finish, on the obstacles itâs only one of the two participants who will take it on (itâs up to you to decide if you alternate properly đ€)
Oh yesâcalling yourself a Spartan race finisher, you have to earn it! âš To add a little extra challenge, if within a calendar year you finish a Sprint + Super + Beast, you can start collecting the Trifecta đ . A completely unique medal, assembled race by race. It will bring you into an exclusive circle and, above all, forge you into a hard-core warrior mindset. And to get it, itâs better to take part in other races! We suggest Spartan St.Pölten, Spartan Zell am See-Kaprun or Spartan Berlin. With that, youâve got plenty to kick off the collection đ„.
For this edition in Kulmbach, the post-race is just as interesting as everything else đ. In this beautiful city, located in the state of Bavaria in Germany, thereâs plenty to keep you busy if the race wasnât enough (which very certainly wonât be the case đ«Ł). The âsecret beer capitalâ will definitely offer you some well-deserved tastings đș. But be carefulâweâre keeping an eye on you, because alcohol should be consumed in moderation! History buffs can also visit the various museums and Plassenburg Castle đ°. And tireless athletes will also have plenty to do, with beautiful hikes nearby. Well, of course, to get everyone on the same page thereâs also one thing to try: Kulmbacher Bratwurst đ.
Nowâs not the time to complainâthe Spartan is waiting for you, along with your motivation and your warrior mindset.
A half marathon, yes, but not only đ«Ł. Add to that a nice list of 30 obstacles to get through, to make the race a bit more challenging. To give you an example, here are a few activities waiting for you:
In short, now all you have to do is prepare really, really, really well đ„”.
A 10 km is nice, but with 25 obstacles on top, it sounds even better đ«Ą. We hope you agree with that statement, because look at whatâs been prepared for you:
Oh yes, this isnât a 10 km like youâre used to doing for your Sunday run! đ€Ł
A 5 km sprint? Uh, yes, almostâjust with 20 obstacles in the middle... đ« Like for example:
Weâll give you that: itâs a pretty special 5 km! đ„
4 h of effort, endurance, strength and mental toughness đ§ . In an unpredictable event, at the start youâre thrown a bit into the unknown, with one single goal: finish this race. Originally created in 2011 to repair obstacles damaged during a stormy night in the middle of a race, it has now become an institution of Spartan races đ.
The Hurricane Heat format sets up different obstacles for you, which will change you and forge an indestructible mindset đȘš. Between mud, river crossings and steep climbs, youâll have plenty to do to fill those 4 hours đŠ.
Thinking of everyone is genuinely true here. Spartan therefore offers a format adapted for the youngest, with a 1 to 3 km race dotted with 10 to 20 obstacles đ§.
