The event in a few words

Run, climb, carry, run, lift, crawl, run, ascend, cross
đŸ„” Now that is an event that makes you dream. Oh yes, Spartan St.Pölten doesn’t mess around when it comes to effort. There’s no room here for that little moment of “I don’t feel like it, I can’t be bothered” — motivation and grit will come first đŸ’„. You’re coming to crawl in the mud and tame the obstacles 🚧. The scene is set: we’re in Lower Austria, right in the heart of Austria (makes sense đŸ˜č), in Sankt Pölten, for a completely crazy weekend in June. Well, if you’re going to do an obstacle race, you might as well do it with the world leader, right? Come on, come become a true Spartan ⚔.

Basically, Spartan is THE race that will get you cleaned up, enjoying yourself, and pushing beyond your limits đŸ”„. Fierce, strong, motivated, and determined: those are the qualities you’ll need. Add to that: trail-style running and obstacles of every kind. Starting to picture it? To finish, 300 — you know, the movie about the Battle of Thermopylae, where they seem superhuman and valiant on all fronts? đŸ«Ą Well, that’ll be a bit like you during this race. On the agenda, of course, running, but above all punctuated with original challenges. Don’t be scared by the English names that will pop up: since they originate from the United States, the obstacles all have English-sounding names! đŸ‡ș🇾 For example, the “Barbed wire crawl”: a crossing under barbed wire đŸȘ; the “Helix”: climbing a slanted wall; or the “Rope Climb”: which will test your ability to climb a rope đŸȘą. In short, you quickly understand that you’ll need solid motivation to make it to the starting line. Whether it’s to push yourself, prove something, or confirm what you’re capable of, you definitely have a good reason to take on this challenge.

Of course, there’s something for everyone, and above all for all levels, so no excuses ❌. We start with the “Sprint”, explosive and fast: a 5 km race with 20 obstacles to get through. You can also double down with the “Super”, which puts you on 10 km of running and 25 obstacles on the course. Finally, we move on to the legendary distances with the “Beast”: a 21 km and 30 obstacles scattered around (that’s quite the half-marathon
). Then again, it seems there are still true Spartans on Earth, and they’ve understood that well đŸ€Ł. That’s why there’s also the “Spartan Hurricane Heat” format, 12h, a pure endurance and fascinating self-overcoming format. Weighted river crossing, orienteering, crawling under barbed wire or through thick mud
đŸ«Ÿ There’s truly enough to head home as a sports monster. We did say it was “for everyone”, so you might as well test yourself from the youngest age with the "Kids Race" of 1 to 3 km with 10 to 20 obstacles! đŸ‘Š And by the way, with these equally crazy formats, you have the option to do these races as a duo. With a start and finish together, for the obstacles it’s only one of the two participants who will take them on (it’s up to you to see if you take turns đŸ€“).

For this Austrian edition, the contrast is crazy! Between walls to climb in the city, the Traisen river to cross, and the thick mud of the Viehofen lakes, the scenery will change a lot. Oh yes, calling yourself a Spartan finisher has to be earned! ✹ To add a little extra challenge, if in a calendar year (or in one weekend đŸ˜”â€đŸ’«) you finish a Sprint + Super + Beast format, you can start collecting the Trifecta 🏅. A completely unique medal, assembled race by race. It will bring you into a closed circle and, above all, forge a true warrior mindset. Besides, to get it, it’s better to take part in other races! We suggest Spartan Kulmbach, Spartan Zell am See-Kaprun or Spartan Berlin. With that, you’ve got plenty to kick off the collection đŸ„‡.

For this edition in Sankt Pölten, the post-race is just as interesting as the rest 😆. In the capital, located in the state of Lower Austria in Austria, there’s plenty to keep you busy if the race wasn’t enough (which it very likely will be đŸ«Ł). This city, named capital not that long ago (1986), has a city center and neighborhoods in the old town that you absolutely have to visit! ⭐ All the more so because there are plenty of monuments: Museum Niederoesterreich, Die Kathedralkirche MariĂ€ Himmelfahrt, Festspielhaus St. Poelten or Rathaus. So yes, you’ll probably struggle to pronounce them, but at least you’ll have discovered their stories 🙌. Otherwise, walks in nature or swims in natural lakes are also ideal activities. Before heading back, enjoy your time in town to stop and taste some apricot Knödels, typical of Wachau 📍.

Now’s not the time to complain — Spartan is waiting for you with your motivation and warrior mindset.

A perfect endurance test ✹
Let’s be honest: your lungs are going to work overtime here. Between the punchy climbs in the streets of St. Pölten and the nonstop obstacles, it’s a real battle against yourself. A few more words

A semi-marathon, yes, but not only đŸ«Ł. Add to that a solid list of 30 obstacles to get through, to spice up the race a little. To give you an example, here are a few activities waiting for you:

  • Barbed Wire Crawl (crawling under barbed wire)

  • Hercules Hoist (hoisting a 43 kg weight for men and 34 kg for women, to the top of a 7.5 m high structure)

In short, now all you have to do is prepare really, really, really well đŸ„”.
