Run, climb, carry, run, lift, crawl, run, ascend, crossâŠ đ„” Now that is an event that makes you dream. Oh yes, Spartan St.Pölten doesnât mess around when it comes to effort. Thereâs no room here for that little moment of âI donât feel like it, I canât be botheredâ â motivation and grit will come first đ„. Youâre coming to crawl in the mud and tame the obstacles đ§. The scene is set: weâre in Lower Austria, right in the heart of Austria (makes sense đč), in Sankt Pölten, for a completely crazy weekend in June. Well, if youâre going to do an obstacle race, you might as well do it with the world leader, right? Come on, come become a true Spartan âïž.
Basically, Spartan is THE race that will get you cleaned up, enjoying yourself, and pushing beyond your limits đ„. Fierce, strong, motivated, and determined: those are the qualities youâll need. Add to that: trail-style running and obstacles of every kind. Starting to picture it? To finish, 300 â you know, the movie about the Battle of Thermopylae, where they seem superhuman and valiant on all fronts? 𫥠Well, thatâll be a bit like you during this race. On the agenda, of course, running, but above all punctuated with original challenges. Donât be scared by the English names that will pop up: since they originate from the United States, the obstacles all have English-sounding names! đșđž For example, the âBarbed wire crawlâ: a crossing under barbed wire đȘ; the âHelixâ: climbing a slanted wall; or the âRope Climbâ: which will test your ability to climb a rope đȘą. In short, you quickly understand that youâll need solid motivation to make it to the starting line. Whether itâs to push yourself, prove something, or confirm what youâre capable of, you definitely have a good reason to take on this challenge.
Of course, thereâs something for everyone, and above all for all levels, so no excuses â. We start with the âSprintâ, explosive and fast: a 5 km race with 20 obstacles to get through. You can also double down with the âSuperâ, which puts you on 10 km of running and 25 obstacles on the course. Finally, we move on to the legendary distances with the âBeastâ: a 21 km and 30 obstacles scattered around (thatâs quite the half-marathonâŠ). Then again, it seems there are still true Spartans on Earth, and theyâve understood that well đ€Ł. Thatâs why thereâs also the âSpartan Hurricane Heatâ format, 12h, a pure endurance and fascinating self-overcoming format. Weighted river crossing, orienteering, crawling under barbed wire or through thick mud⊠đ« Thereâs truly enough to head home as a sports monster. We did say it was âfor everyoneâ, so you might as well test yourself from the youngest age with the "Kids Race" of 1 to 3 km with 10 to 20 obstacles! đŠ And by the way, with these equally crazy formats, you have the option to do these races as a duo. With a start and finish together, for the obstacles itâs only one of the two participants who will take them on (itâs up to you to see if you take turns đ€).
For this Austrian edition, the contrast is crazy! Between walls to climb in the city, the Traisen river to cross, and the thick mud of the Viehofen lakes, the scenery will change a lot. Oh yes, calling yourself a Spartan finisher has to be earned! âš To add a little extra challenge, if in a calendar year (or in one weekend đ”âđ«) you finish a Sprint + Super + Beast format, you can start collecting the Trifecta đ . A completely unique medal, assembled race by race. It will bring you into a closed circle and, above all, forge a true warrior mindset. Besides, to get it, itâs better to take part in other races! We suggest Spartan Kulmbach, Spartan Zell am See-Kaprun or Spartan Berlin. With that, youâve got plenty to kick off the collection đ„.
For this edition in Sankt Pölten, the post-race is just as interesting as the rest đ. In the capital, located in the state of Lower Austria in Austria, thereâs plenty to keep you busy if the race wasnât enough (which it very likely will be đ«Ł). This city, named capital not that long ago (1986), has a city center and neighborhoods in the old town that you absolutely have to visit! âïž All the more so because there are plenty of monuments: Museum Niederoesterreich, Die Kathedralkirche MariĂ€ Himmelfahrt, Festspielhaus St. Poelten or Rathaus. So yes, youâll probably struggle to pronounce them, but at least youâll have discovered their stories đ. Otherwise, walks in nature or swims in natural lakes are also ideal activities. Before heading back, enjoy your time in town to stop and taste some apricot Knödels, typical of Wachau đ.
Nowâs not the time to complain â Spartan is waiting for you with your motivation and warrior mindset.
A semi-marathon, yes, but not only đ«Ł. Add to that a solid list of 30 obstacles to get through, to spice up the race a little. To give you an example, here are a few activities waiting for you:
In short, now all you have to do is prepare really, really, really well đ„”.
A 10 km is nice, but with an extra 25 obstacles it sounds even better đ«Ą. We hope you totally agree with that statement, because take a look at whatâs been prepared for you:
Oh yes, this isnât a 10 km like youâre used to doing on your Sunday run! đ€Ł
A 5 km sprint? Uh, yes, almostâjust with 20 obstacles in the middle... đ« Like, for example:
Weâll give you thatâthis is a pretty special 5 km! đ„
12 h of effort, endurance, strength, and mental toughness đ§ . In an unpredictable event, at the start, you're thrown a bit into the unknown, with a single goal: finish this race. Originally created in 2011 to repair obstacles damaged during a stormy night in a race, it has now become an institution in Spartan races đ.
The Hurricane Heat format sets up different obstacles for you that will transform you and forge an indestructible mindset đȘš. Between mud, river crossings, and steep climbs, you'll have plenty to keep you busy for these 12 hours đŠ.
