The event in a few words

Watch out for dizziness—these Occitan loops won’t let you catch your breath 😵‍💫.

Attention all adrenaline lovers: 🗣️ the 6h de la Balerme race takes place in Verfeil in the month of June. Organized by the Verfeil Firefighters’ Association, we’ve found the challenge that’s going to set your legs on fire 🦵. The concept is that of the famous "Backyard" races, where you run against the clock on 6.7 km loops. Except here you can add the beautiful scenery of Lac de la Balerme, the 70 mD+ of elevation that’s going to make your life hard, and the renowned atmosphere of the local firefighters. If you’ve never heard of the event before today, let us fill you in ⬇️.

Our story begins in Verfeil, in the Haute-Garonne department, in Occitanie. Suffice it to say there’s everything you need to start a race that’s Verfeil-iciously tough 😬. Wide meadows, a lake with crystal-clear water, and little rocky trails—what more could you ask for? Apparently nothing more, since it’s in this natural setting that the most physically demanding event around takes place 🥵. Originally, the event was run informally among members of the fire station. But over time, the race grew so much and participants became so numerous that it opened up to the general public ✅. However, the organizers are keen to maintain the event’s core values: accessibility, sharing, and friendliness within running. Above all, it’s an event of solidarity and cohesion 👊. In short, each loop is an individual effort... shared collectively. And to avoid needlessly exhausting runners, the format is limited to 6 hours, so you can calmly enjoy the late-day sunshine and share your post-race with all the teams ☀️. For firefighters with a strong team spirit, it’s also possible to register for the "Firefighters’ Challenge", to be run in a team of 4, by station 👬. The rest of the story is yours to write ✍️.

After 42 km of effort (yes, yes—the equivalent of a marathon if you complete all the loops), you’ll have earned some rest 😴. For that, we’ve got a few spots to recommend. First, right there on site, you can bring along your favorite trio : the Verfeil pétanque court and its faithful regulars are just waiting for you ⏳. With a little sun-soaked pastis at the end of the day, you’ll finish the weekend in style. Otherwise, you can also just take a stroll through downtown Verfeil to unwind. Verfeil Castle 🏰, the Saint-Blaise Church, and the half-timbered houses will take you on a journey through time. You can also head to Lavaur for a walk or push on to Saint-Sulpice-la-Pointe for a change of scenery 💨. If you’re a fan of big cities, you can end your trip in Toulouse, with a more urban and dynamic vibe 🏠.

You come for the effort, you leave with your head full of memories! So, ready to come full circle? 😎

4 reasons to join this race

An original format 🔄
If you're fed up with classic race formats with a start, a finish, and one intense effort in between, the backyard concept is perfect for you ✅. You have 1 hour to finish each 6.7 km loop, and head out on the next one. If you come in after 40 minutes, you’ve got 20 minutes of rest—pretty awesome. What’s more, the organizers have thought of your little heart and capped the whole thing at 6 hours of effort. No need to block off your weekend and go 48 hours non-stop, phew! 😮‍💨
A genuine atmosphere 🎉
Born from the simple desire to share and bring people together, the event lives on with the deep values of friendliness, accessibility, and pushing your limits 🤝. The atmosphere is unique: everyone cheers each other on, supports one another, and pushes through together for the 6 hours of effort. In short, it’s much more than a race: it’s a collective experience where you’ll mix performance and pleasure 💗.
The Firefighters’ Challenge 🧑‍🚒
The Verfeil Firefighters’ Association that organizes the event has also decided to set up a challenge for its fellow firefighters 🔥. If you’re a firefighter, you can register with 3 of your teammates to form a mixed team (at least one woman required) and take on the region’s stations. All team members start each loop. At the end of the 6 hours, the number of loops completed by the 4 runners is added up 🔄. The station with the most wins the event. And if several teams are still complete on the last lap, the one whose 4 runners cross the line first wins the challenge. So, ready to show what you’re made of? 🪵
A stunning setting ⛵️
Lake Balerme isn’t Palermo, but it has (almost) nothing to envy 🏝️. It’s simple: swap the Mediterranean coast for the peaceful lakeside, sandy stretches for vast green meadows, and arancini for a tasty local cassoulet 🤤. So, convinced? With a bit of imagination, nothing is impossible—even winning the 6h of La Balerme 🏆.

A word from the organizer:

“The 6h de la Balerme is above all a human adventure. We wanted to create an event where everyone can find their place, whether to perform or simply to take on a personal challenge. Seeing teams take turns, encourage each other, laugh together… that’s the essence of our race. We do everything we can to deliver a high-quality organization, in a friendly and safe atmosphere. We’re looking forward to seeing lots of you and sharing this experience with us!”
