The event in a few words

Here, the map of the world ends, and the map of the brave begins 🌍. Ushuaia by UTMB, known until 2025 as Valhöll Fin del Mundo by UTMB, sets off each March from Ushuaia, the southernmost city on the planet, perched on the Tierra del Fuego archipelago 🔥. Some call it the end of the world, others prefer to see it as a starting point: the organizers, for their part, flat-out borrowed a name from Norse mythology to set the scene 🏞️. Head for Valhöll, the home of warriors fallen in battle—except that here you generally get there on your own two legs 😅.

The event has grown fast since its launch, to the point of joining in 2026 the very selective UTMB World Series circuit, alongside the biggest trail rendezvous on the planet 🪐. The name change, from Valhöll Fin del Mundo to Ushuaia by UTMB®, goes hand in hand with this integration and, above all, clears up one point for the absent-minded: yes, the race does take place in Ushuaia, not in Scandinavia 🧭. For a nice reward, each distance now awards Running Stones, that famous pass that opens the doors to the world final in Chamonix. Suffice it to say that running at the end of the world can also take you straight to the top of the game 🫡.

The scenery doesn’t pretend: forests of lenga trees that turn coppery red as soon as autumn arrives, peat bogs that swallow your strides, glacial lagoons in shades dubbed Emerald, Turquoise or Submarine, and the Beagle Channel shimmering in the background whenever the trail gains height 🏔. Six formats share this life-size playground 🌟. The "Epic 130K" at 113 km with 4,854 mD+ takes the giant title of the event; the "Advance 85K" offers 86.8 km and 3,677 mD+ and heads for the lagoons and the Submarino waterfall 💦. Next, the "Challenge 50K" logically covers 50 km and adds up to 2,712 mD+ to climb from the Martial glacier up to Cerro Cortes, while the "Courage 33K" comes in at 33.8 km and 1,553 mD+ 📈. The list continues with the "Power 22K" over 22.4 km and 944 mD+, starting from the ski area of Cerro Castor. Finally, the "Explore 12K" racks up 13.4 km for 684 mD+ and closes out the list starting from the Club Andino Ushuaia 📍.

Few races on Earth can claim the title of the southernmost ultra-trail in the world, and this one wears it without hesitation ⚡. The elevation gain of the Epic, brushing up against 4,900 mD+ over 113 km, ranks the event among the most demanding per meter on the UTMB circuit. The three Running Stones it hands out also make it one of the most sought-after springboards for would-be finalists in Chamonix, alongside events far better known on the Old Continent 💫.

Patagonia never does things by halves when it comes to weather: here, all four seasons can roll by in a single race day, between bright sunshine, gusts sweeping in from the Strait of Magellan, and sudden showers 🌦. On the Cerro Castor domain, considered the most prestigious ski resort in South America, the vibe shifts more toward an expedition spirit, with runners bundled up and organizers reminding everyone that the wind here has never read the rulebook 👀.

Once you cross the finish line, the rest of the trip practically writes itself ✍️. A catamaran outing on the Beagle Channel lets you greet the local penguins, more used to diving than to strides 🐧, before a foray into the Tierra del Fuego National Park to extend the expedition without a bib 🧘‍♀️. On the plate, centolla, that giant king crab, and Patagonian lamb cooked on a cross more than deserve a spot on the menu, topped off with a calafate tart, the local berry whose legend promises a return to anyone who tastes it 😋.

Enough to end on one certainty: in Ushuaia, the finish line is never really an end—more an excuse to claim, for the span of a weekend, that you’ve earned your place in Valhalla 🍀.
