It's in the region Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, in the heart of the mountains of Cantal, in the Massif Central 🏔️, where the Lioran station 📍 is located. It largely extends over the highest commune of the Alagnon valley, Laveissière. This station, nestled among fir trees 🌲 and the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park 🌋, hosts the fourth edition 🥳 of the 4 x 1800 Trail. Organized by the "Lioran Sports Club", this race offers you 5 different events in mid-July: "The Plomb Trail" of 13 km, "The Ridge Trail" of 22 km and "The 4 x 1800 Trail" of 35 km to be done in solo or duo and finally the "Cantalous Marathon" which is a pack combining "The 4 x 1800 Trail" and the "Plomb Trail" 🔗. Top runners have tested this event for you in previous years, including Mathieu Delpeuch and Quentin Meyleu. So you can be sure that The 4 x 1800 Trail is serious business! Additionally, you can earn ITRA points through the UTMB Index circuit (2 for the "Cantalous Marathon" and the "4 x 1800 Trail" and 1 for the "Ridge Trail"). And the organizers have even thought of the younger ones among us! 👧From as early as young age, children will have a 1 km loop with a bit of elevation gain (to get the true trail experience 😜), and depending on official age categories, they will complete several loops ☝️. So a friendly, festive 🎉 and family 👨👩👧👦 atmosphere awaits you for a weekend packed with activities and entertainment 😁.
So welcome 👋 to the Lioran station, in the heart of the Cantal Massif. This winter ski domain ❄️ spans 150 hectares 😮 and delights skiers with no less than 43 slopes. In summer ☀️, it's the hikers' turn to enjoy the place with a must-start point towards the summits 🏔️. The diversity and beauty of the landscapes 🏞️ will amaze you during your walks on forest paths and the crest trails! The mountain peaks, not the hairstyles you used to hold with your Vivelle Dop Concrete Fixation Gel when you were little ✂️.
Now that the stage is set, and you know what kind of environment you will navigate, let's get back to the essential. At Finishers, we enjoy running, so we didn't want to bring down the mood right at the start! 😉 With 600 mD+ over 13 km, "The Plomb Trail" (which you won't have in your wing 🪽), will appeal to fans of steep and fast races ⚡️. It will start at Lioran and finish... at Lioran 🏁. The same goes for the "Ridge Trail" of 22 km and its 1,200 mD+. As its name indicates, this trail will take you to the discovery of ridges with a pass at the volcanic peak of Peyre Arse 🌋. Finally, let's talk about THE big race of the weekend, the 4 x 1800 with its 2,000 mD+ 👆. What's on? Technicality and the 4 summit passage, over 1,800 m altitude 🌬️. This authentic race, to be completed without poles and without tricks (lol), has a single refreshment station 💧 at the 20th kilometer, in Saint-Jacques-des-Blats, which will also be the relay handover point for your relay 🤝. Well, if you're the one who started the race, the hardest is done: your partner will only have 13 small km to go before reaching the finish line at Lioran. For the bolder ones, the organizers have created the "Cantalous Marathon"! The rules are simple: you must run (and finish, of course) the "Plomb Trail" AND the "4 x 1800 Trail" (nothing less 😅). These are a total of 45 km and 2,600 mD+ waiting for your legs between Friday night and Saturday morning! 😬 Special mention to the cunning ones who wouldn't (have) prepared properly before setting foot on the 4 x 1800 Trail, without training you won't see the end of it! ⚠️ Oh, we prefer to warn you! Like this, the distances seem cute, but trust me, they'll give you a run for your money (do you know the Gremlins? It's the same 🎭). To be sure you have the necessary level to come and scramble through the Auvergne Volcanoes Regional Park, you just need to check the indications on the time barriers, they will tell you your destiny like fortune-tellers! 🔮
No, don't worry, we haven't forgotten our dear little ones. We explain the course in the section just below! 👇 Everyone can participate in the event with a mandatory eco-friendly behavior ♻️, essential to the trail 🙏.
We've made a mountain out of this event, so ready to join us? 😉
To take on the challenge of the "Marathon of the Cantalous", you'll need to conquer the 13 km and the 35 km! In addition to the regular ranking, a special ranking will be made for this challenge with the cumulative time ⏱️ of the two races and not the positions ☝️.
As for the landscapes you'll cross, you're a real lucky one 🍀. You're the only one who will be able to enjoy the entire scenery. The "4 x 1800" and the "Trail of the Plomb" do not use the same trails at all. You will be able to pass through the refuge of the Plomb, the ascent of the Devil's Argon and the Col de Rombière, all in the same race 🏃♂️.
For this 35 km loop, your start will be on the side of Lioran. The big race of the weekend promises you a technical program with the crossings at the 4 summits over 1,800 m altitude in Cantal 🙄. The second part of the course is likely to put your calves to the test because it's the Devil's Argon ascent that awaits you, and it certainly lives up to its name! 👿 5.5 km and 900 mD+ with an average of more than 15%, it's something to be afraid of! 😱 This authentic race is to be completed without poles, and with only two full refreshment stations located at Col de Rombière and at Saint-Jacques-des-Blats at km 20, which also corresponds to the relay zone. For our favorite relay runners, it's the end of the ordeal: pass the problems to your partner and take a break 😴. For the bravest who are going solo, there will be only 12 km left to ascend to the finish line at Lioran and complete this famous course 🏁.
If you're part of the team that loves course reconnaissance before the event, it won't be possible because the route goes through private paths! ⚠️
As the name suggests, this race is run in teams of two. It follows the same route as the solo race 😉, but here the hardships are shared. The baton exchange will take place at km 20 in Saint-Jacques-des-Blats. Once across the finish line, participants can share stories about the landscapes they traversed and the challenges they faced. It's a wonderful opportunity to create great memories 💭.
For this 22 km route, your start will be from Lioran. The first part of the course follows the 33 km path, so it will be quite technical with rather steep sections. The discovery of the ridges awaits you next, including the passage to the summit of the Peyre Arse between Le Lioran and Saint-Jacques-des-Blats. After the Griou scree, you will have overcome all the challenges and can comfortably descend back to Lioran, where you started 🏁.
Beware if you are part of the team that loves to recon the course before the event, it will not be possible as the route passes through private paths! ⚠️ For better or worse, you'll discover all the landscapes on the day. Be warned, you're going to be blown away 😳.
For this 13 km course, your start will be at Lioran and will head in the opposite direction from the 4 x 1800 and the Trail des Crêtes courses. Climbing up to the Plomb refuge (hence the name of the event), this mountain race format will appeal to lovers of steep and fast races with a finish line at Lioran 🏁. A true challenge awaits you, especially from the second half of the climb and throughout the descent where the trails are very technical. The elevation will leave you breathless 😮💨. But it's worth the effort as you'll have the chance to admire a magnificent sunset at the summit! 🌄
If you're part of the team that loves to do course reconnaissance before the event, it won't be possible as the route passes through private paths! ⚠️
The Little Ones

The little ones can take their time to enjoy the monumental setting around them 🏞️.

A cut-off time is the latest time set by the organiser to leave a checkpoint. These cut-offs help keep the course as safe as possible and ensure runner safety under the best possible conditions:
"Trail des 4 x 1800": 7 hours maximum total time (including all stops) for the full course. Runners are withdrawn from the race after this time limit. A cut-off will be enforced at the Saint-Jacques-des-Blats aid station at 12:30 pm.
"Trail des Crêtes": 5 hours total time (including all stops) for the full course. Runners are withdrawn from the race after this time limit.
"Trail du Plomb": 3 hours total time (including all stops) for the full course. Runners are withdrawn from the race after this time limit.
These races follow a self-sufficiency principle, meaning runners must be reasonably autonomous between aid stations—both for nutrition and for clothing/safety equipment.
Two full aid stations (drinks + food) will be set up at Saint-Jacques-des-Blats and at Col de Rombière. A drinks-only station will also be available at the Plomb-du-Cantal cable car.
No cups will be provided: runners must carry their own container (cup or bottle).
For the "Trail des 4 x 1800", there will be two start waves. Waves are not based on participants’ expected time: first to the start line, first to start. Starts will be at 7:45 am and 8:00 am.
For each race in the event, assistance is allowed only at Saint-Jacques-des-Blats, within an area marked out by the organisers. Assistance is prohibited at all other points on the course, including Col de Rombière, under penalty of disqualification.
Access to the aid station is forbidden for runners’ supporters. Checkpoint managers will ensure these rules are strictly followed.
Mandatory equipment varies depending on the race format. This list is designed to maximise your safety and is a minimum—each trail runner should adapt it to their own abilities and the conditions.
Whatever the distance, no cups will be provided, in line with the organiser’s environmental commitments.
The basic mandatory kit for the "Trail des 4 x 1800", "Trail des Crêtes" and "Trail du Plomb" is as follows:
A working mobile phone. Runners must be reachable at all times before, during and after the race: keep your phone switched on and do not use airplane mode. Any runner who cannot be reached may be penalised.
1L of water (only 0.5L for the "Trail du Plomb")
Emergency blanket
Whistle
A working headlamp ("Trail du Plomb" only)
Mandatory kit depending on weather conditions:
A waterproof rain jacket
A warm hat and gloves
An additional second layer (top + bottoms)
A larger water reserve
Trekking poles are not allowed.
An official prize-giving ceremony will take place at 4:00 pm on Saturday 18 July 2026 in the finish area and will reward:
The top 5 men and women overall (scratch) for the "Trail des 4 x 1800", "Trail des Crêtes" and "Trail du Plomb".
The top 3 overall (scratch) for the "Marathon des Cantalous" (combined time of the "Trail du Plomb" and the "Trail des 4 x 1800").
For the "Trail des 4 x 1800", the top 3 men and top 3 women overall will receive prize money as follows:
1st man and 1st woman: €500
2nd man and 2nd woman: €300
3rd man and 3rd woman: €200
Yes. By registering for one of the Trail des 4 x 1800 races, participants commit to respecting the environment and the natural areas crossed. In particular, runners must:
Carry all waste to the aid stations, where bins are provided
Stay on the marked trail (do not leave it or cut switchbacks, which can cause erosion)
Respect the natural environment around them
Leave the course marking as installed by the organisers
Use a personal cup, as no disposable, non-biodegradable tableware will be provided at aid stations
Please note: any breach of these rules will result in disqualification.
