Salomon Cappadocia Ultra Trail
🎶 A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away... 🪐 No, we're not spoiling the first Star Wars! 🎬 Although, it's true, the place we're taking you today looks a lot like Tatooine 🏜 , the vast desert planet where our dear Anakin Skywalker grew up! It's in Turkey 🇹🇷 that we are heading, more precisely to the Cappadocia region, to tell you the story of a truly galactic trail: the Cappadocia Ultra Trail! So hang tight; we are departing... now! Set your course for light speed to Ürgüp ! 🚀
Three, two, one... Light speed engaged! 🛸 We have three minutes to pitch the event to you, so let's go! Participating in the "Salomon Cappadocia Ultra-Trail" means having the chance, no, the privilege, to run on some of the highest plateaus ⛰ and valleys 🏜 of the volcanic region 🌋 located in central Turkey, to the east of the Anatolian peninsula. The landscapes are absolutely wonderful! You'll run through vast desert valleys 🌵, gallop close to blue azure lakes, but most importantly... You'll have the chance to discover the fairy chimneys! 🧚 "But, Jamy, what is a fairy chimney?" Excellent question! A fairy chimney is a massive column of rather friable rocks that can reach several tens of meters! 😮 And indeed, from a distance, one might think they are observing a giant chimney! So, are you motivated? 💪 Know that three courses are available: the "Cappadocia Ultra-Trail" (119 km), the "Cappadocia Medium Trail" (63 km), and finally the "Cappadocia Short Trail" (38 km). Well... Let's admit, 38 km isn't very "short"! 😂 And the good news for those who don't think they can handle such distances is that it's possible to complete them in a relay of 2, 6, or 3!
And what about the course? In 1985, the UNESCO decided to make the Cappadocia region a protected World Heritage site! 🏛 And we understand why! Indeed, Cappadocia is located at the heart of Anatolia 🇹🇷, a region famous for its surprising volcanic landscapes! 🌋 Indeed, there is a rock that takes all sorts of incredible forms due to past volcanic activity! 🪨 Notably, we find the fairy chimneys, these giant stone columns that locals sometimes used to carve their homes ⛰ and even build real underground cities! Additionally, the region is very rich from a historical viewpoint 👩🏫. Initially belonging to the Persians, then to the Romans, the region long served as a hiding place for Christians in underground cities before Christianity eventually became accepted in the area! An interesting past to discover and observe. The route of the Cappadocia Ultra Trail will therefore allow you to better know this incredible region from both a geological viewpoint and a historical viewpoint! Before and after the race, you can buy some energy bars, equipment and drinks in the village created for the occasion! 🤝
What, it's already over? No, because if you wish to take the opportunity to explore the region, we have some tips for you! First, if you want to get your adrenaline pumping and see these volcanic rocks up close, you can take a hot air balloon ride! 🎈 Flights last about sixty minutes, and you can then literally float above the valleys! 😉 Additionally, at the end of your journey, you will receive your flight certificate! 😁 You can also visit the underground city of Kaymakli, one of the oldest villages in Cappadocia! You can also take the opportunity to visit the famous open-air museum of Gorëme and admire the frescoes and paintings of the Byzantine Empire (dating back to the 10th century)! 🖼 Finally, if you’re a bit peckish, we encourage you to try all the different mezze (appetizers similar to Spanish tapas 🇪🇸), then enjoy the famous Köfte, typical meatballs! 🍽
There you go, that's the end of our galactic journey! Now it's your turn to play... May the force be with you! 💪
