The event in a few words

"You’ll need a good pedal stroke"! 💥

Get your lightest bike out, we're taking you to test gravity in Isère, in the beautiful region of Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes! 🏔️ The GFNY La Vaujany Alpe d'Huez is a mythical event that takes place at the end of June, starting from the village station of Vaujany 🏂. Belonging to the famous GFNY organization, you can be assured of a well-planned and physically demanding event 🥵. You may have already heard of it because of its famous passage through the bends of L'Alpe d'Huez. With 2 events on the program 📅, you can truly measure yourself against the legendary peaks and passes that have thrilled the Tour de France for decades 🇫🇷 (the Col d'Ornon, or the Col de la Morte to name just the most famous) 🏞️. Whether you choose the "medium course" of 59.7 km with its 1,801 mD+ or you're ready to tackle the "long course" of 150.6 km with its 4,172 mD+, the experience will be etched in your memory, we assure you! 🧠

The environment will give you no respite during the event 😮‍💨. You will start between the mounts of La Meije, Taillefer, and Belledonne. If you're familiar with the local geography, you'll start realizing the extent of the effort required 😝. Unlike other events like GravelMan Bordeaux or GravelMan Orléans, you won’t encounter flat circuits 🚲, but you’ll face real alpine cliffs 🫨. The gradients range from 8 to 14%, just that 😭. Note that harness use is not allowed ❌. For the "long course", the marking will lead you through the emblematic villages of Allemond, La Morte, Entraigues, Ornon, Le Bourg-d’Oisans and Huez (with its 21 recognized switchbacks 🧶). The "medium course", based on a shortened version of the "long course", will also have you pedaling at altitude, featuring the climb of L'Alpe d'Huez and a second (but not negligible 😬) late ascent to reach the village of Vaujany 🚲. Whichever you choose, you'll return with burning legs and a desire to surpass yourself next year. 😎

For the atmosphere, you can trust the locals 🎉, who are used to welcoming the Tour de France to their home 🏠. Here, cycling is somewhat like a religion 🙏. Throughout the course, you'll also find the GFNY DNA: 🧬 a mix of international performance and local friendliness. 🌍 To extend the Isère discovery: meet at the finish for a race debrief over a good shared meal 🍽️. Yes, because Isère is as much tasted via the eyes as via the taste buds 👅: the murçon, the saint-marcellin 🧀 or the walnut tart are flagship local specialties 🤤. If you want to celebrate with a full glass: the famous chartreuse also comes from the region 🍷. You can even go directly to the Musée de la Grande Chartreuse, which traces the liqueur's history. Be careful, however, excessive alcohol consumption is dangerous for your health (and for performance 🏅), consume in moderation! ⚠️ On the other hand, if you prefer cultural discoveries: head to Grenoble, its eponymous museum, its archaeological museum and its Dauphinois museum 🏺.

Sport, history, landscapes 🤩, atmosphere, the GFNY Alpe d’Huez is the way to lose in calories everything you'll gain in memories... 💭

4 reasons to join this race

A legendary route 🏆
The GFNY La Vaujany Alpe d'Huez is the unique opportunity to follow in the footsteps of the greatest champions in cycling history 🦸‍♂️. The switchbacks of Alpe d'Huez are not just a sporting feat, but a true historic journey 📚. From Fausto Coppi to Tom Pidcock, through French riders Pierre Rolland or Thibault Pinot, this famous climb has seen many top athletes 🫨. The question now is, how many seconds do you hope to gain on them? 👀
A well-prepared organization ⚙️
GFNY stands for "Gran Fondo New York," which means you're taking on a big challenge! Initially launched in New York, the concept was so successful it spread worldwide 🌍. When seeking to organize major cycling challenges, the Alps quickly come to mind 🌄. All this to say that the GFNY Alpe d'Huez is just one of 20 international events organized by the small American team. You can trust them, they know what they're talking about! 🗣️
Its natural environment 🏔️
Beyond the struggle, the landscape setting is truly unique in the area 🖼️. If you have enough energy to think of something other than pedaling, look up and enjoy the views offered to you. With peaks over 1,800 m, you will overlook more than one valley 🤩. You'll ride on roads with unique views of the high-altitude lakes of the region 💦. Between pine forests, rocky ridges, and vast windy plateaus, you'll have both a sporting and visual experience 🤪.
A flashy jersey 🎽
If you've read the FAQ, you're required to wear the race jersey throughout the event 😉. But between us, that's good news because the textile is specially made for the occasion and makes you feel like a true professional 💪. Designed in New York and manufactured in Italy, it perfectly embodies comfort, design, and quality 😎. You'll be so fashionable that you won't want to part with it 💫.

A few more words

This 150.6 km route is reserved for the most seasoned cyclists 💪. It follows the " medium route " but extends further south.

You will pass near La Mure and the foothills of the Matheysine massif ⛰️ before crossing Entraigues, Chantéprier and Ornon (as well as its famous pass 🤪). You will ride along the Valbonnais canal, but no swimming break 🏊, you need to finish the race before nightfall 🚵‍♂️. Furthermore, the return via Le Bourg-d'Oisans and the recovery of the " medium route " marks the beginning of the most intense part with a final stretch towards the Alpe d'Huez 📈.

We recommend a good night's sleep on Saturday 🛏️, because you'll need a good dose of energy to not burn out in the last kilometers before the finish line. 🔋
