Off we go today to the South-West of France, and more precisely the Lot, for an exceptional trail race. The Ultra Trail Causses et Vallées takes place in Cahors, in the heart of spring 🌞, in Occitanie, and offers runners 4 race options: the "Mineral Trail" over 92 km, "L'Atypique Trail" over 42 km, the "Nocturne Trail" over 17 km and "L'Xtrem Challenge", a MTB/trail combo of 200 km and 92 km! Tough stuff! 😮💨 The event is renowned and is part of the UTMB® World Circuit, which says a lot about the level... 🏋️♀️
The Ultra Trail Causses et Vallées takes you running or riding in the splendid setting of the Causses du Quercy Regional Natural Park. The famous Causses plateaus shape the landscape of the park 🌳. The impressive canyons of the Ouysse and the Alzou wind across the area 🥰. The second one is also on the route of the night race 🌒. Starting from Cahors, participants will then go from path to path and from village to village discovering Saint Cirq-Lapopie, Cabrerets, Gramat, Rocamadour, Montfaucon, Labastide-Murat and Vers before returning to the starting city 🚩. Expect quite a bit of elevation gain on the event: the 92 km course will impose 1,810 mD+ on its runners.
Formerly Midi-Pyrénées, the Lot department in the north of Occitanie is a superb blend of exceptional natural areas and heritage 🌟. Your destination today, Cahors, is ideal to start discovering this region. Once you’ve finished your crazy adventure, enjoy a bit of rest in this beautiful city. You went by so fast during the trail that you can plan to stroll around Rocamadour, a medieval village among the most visited in France 🇫🇷. Figeac, labeled "Town of Art and History" 📕, is also full of charm 🥰. And since it’s slightly off-season, the town will be even more yours 🫵.
It’s not every day you get the chance to see landscapes as impressive as these, made up of countless sinkholes, caves and cliffs! Put the Gouffre de Padirac or the Pech Merle cave into your GPS and let yourself be guided—you won’t be disappointed... 😉 The Célé Valley, with its cliffs and troglodyte houses, is also worth a detour. You might even get to enjoy a plate of Mongetada, this Occitan variation of cassoulet, or treat yourself to a glass of Cahors wine? 🍷 And you won’t forget to head home with a generous piece of Rocamadour, a raw goat’s milk cheese! 🐐
You’ve hit the big jackpot! 😜
