Ahhh the Drôme, wouldn't we just rêve to live there 💭? Between lavender 🪻, poppies 🌹, rolling landscapes, and Mediterranean climate, it is a department halfway between the warm cities of the south ☀️ and the tall Alpine mountains 🏔️.
The beautiful Drôme region, located in the southeast of France 🇫🇷 is a capital for outdoor activities. Climbers 🧗, cyclists, hikers, and our little darlings, the trail runners, will certainly recommend it. From a landscape perspective: it's sheer luxury. Swimmers can dive into the waters of the Isère, the Drôme, and the Roubion 🏊. We're not saying the water is warm 💧, but at least you can cool off. That's a detail that could be important once the sports session is over 👀. Earth-wise, the Vercors massif and its peaks are renowned throughout France for their beauty and preservation 🤩. Whether you came just for the trail, or to engage in a range of original disciplines like canyoning, spelunking, or climbing, you'll have a life-sized playground 🌳.
Trail running and the Drôme, they go hand in hand. But in the area, it's really the trail that remains the undisputed sporting queen. And we're not saying this lightly 💨: if François D’Haene has participated in numerous local trails, it's bound to be worth it. Does the name "Kilian Jornet" ring a bell? If so, you'll be able to run in his footsteps because he too participated in numerous competitions in the Vercors. We told you and we insist: the 26 isn't a department to be taken lightly 😎. And the Ultra Trail du Vercors is the perfect example to prove our point ‼️. This adventure (because yes, at this level, it's much more than just a race) starts in Autrans-Méaudre en Vercors, and takes you on distances ranging from 9 to 80 km, with over 4,000 mD+, real cliffs! 🫨 You won't risk getting bored. In a similar vein, but further south, you can also enroll in the UTMC, which offers similar distances and elevations. In terms of experience, it will be quite similar, but you are about to discover entirely new mountains. If you are looking for more accessible formats but equally majestic scenery, we still have some races in stock: the Trail des Truffières, the Trail des Nounours, and the Trail Drôme en Baronnies 🏃. With several formats ranging from 8 to 49 km, you can select the race that suits you, regardless of the part of the Drôme you choose to spend your holidays in.
Finally, for fans of original concepts, the Trail Rose 💖 offers a 24-hour long race. If you're an insomniac, it's perfect, you won't have to close your eyes all night 😴. Here, you start in the early morning and only stop running the next day at the same time. The goal? 🎯 To run the most kilometers in a limited time. We'll let you run, while we go to bed along with the sun 🛌. In a completely different style, the Duo de l'Hermitage is also a unique race: victory must necessarily be shared 🫂. Here, it's impossible to register solo; it’s all about teamwork. So we strongly advise choosing your partner wisely 🤪.
Once you've covered the trails 🥾, you can also stop by the small villages in the area. Do the villages of Mirmande, Le Poët-Laval, or Dieulefit ring a bell? 🤔 If you are an ardent fan of Stéphane Bern 🎤 and admirer of the show "Secrets d’Histoire", look no further, it's surely old memories resurfacing. Indeed, the department is also famous for its many historical and cultural wonders it abounds with. So take the opportunity to visit the Château de Grignan 🏰, the Palais Idéal of Facteur Cheval or the famous Tour de Crest. Among the larger cities, you can also stop in Valence to observe its architecture and the many monuments that compose it 🏛️. Finally, Montélimar also has many surprises in store for you, including one, very sweet, that will surely delight your taste buds (but if you know the one that sticks to your teeth, brown and white...🍬).
So, whether you just want to get closer to the South and the sun, or set out to conquer the mythical mountains of the region, put on your sneakers, choose your race, and get ready to return with a well-filled belly and tired legs 😁.
A next-gen platform helping sports enthusiasts of all levels discover territories and heritage through races tailored to them.
