“In my eyes, it is beyond comparison the most beautiful city in the universe”. The French writer Stendhal ✍️, madly in love with Italy 🇮🇹, wasn’t mistaken: Naples is a surprising and… explosive city! 🌋 A heady mix of chronic traffic jams, gleaming churches, palazzi under renovation, shops filled with all kinds of delights, but also a seafront caressed by the Mediterranean 🌊, Naples is dominated by a giant: Mount Vesuvius 😍. It’s in this dream setting that the Naples Half Marathon (its real name: the Napoli City Half Marathon) takes place. But that’s not all! In addition to the classic half marathon, take on the “Staffetta”, a relay of 21.0975 km 🤝. An adventure to share with others, combining performance and team spirit 🏃♀️
It is here, in this contrast-filled city in Campania, that artists as renowned as Boccaccio and Caravaggio ✍️ came to express their creativity. It is also here, in Italy’s third-largest city, that you can sip a ristretto ☕️ early in the morning with the locals, stroll through steep alleyways, discover the cultural richness of the historic center’s museums, head up to the Vomero hill to admire the twilight setting the city ablaze, and enjoy a Spritz at aperitivo time 🍸. A real dolce vita to savor over a weekend… 😎 Preferably in February, because that’s when the fastest half marathon in Italy is held! 👢
Created in 2016, the Naples half is quite simply the race that holds both the women’s and men’s national records for the distance 😮. Safe to say, they fly through Naples’ streets! ⚡️ If the fastest runners hardly have time to admire the course, you’ll probably be able to enjoy the spectacular route 🤩. Running along the sea, crossing the historic district, catching sight of Mount Vesuvius in the background and, the cherry on top the olive on the pizza 🍕, trying to beat your personal best ⏱️ : that’s the tempting program of the Naples Half Marathon! You can let yourself be carried by a meticulously run organization that boasts no fewer than 3 labels: World Athletics bronze 🥉, European Athletics 5 stars ⭐️ and FIDAL gold 🥇.
And because life isn’t only about sport, you can make the most of your trip to Naples to take a few days’ vacation on the famous Amalfi Coast, a true Mediterranean jewel 😎. If you feel like it, you can even take a trip to the famous island of Capri or escape to the less overhyped islands of Ischia and Procida 🏝️. Something tells us your schedule might be packed next February after you’ve picked up your finisher medal! 😅
Ready to take on the challenge? 🚀 We’ll be waiting for you!
The start will be given at Mostra d’Oltremare, then it will go through the Laziale tunnel before reaching Piazza Sannazaro. You will then begin to run along the sea 🌊 : don’t forget to admire the scenery ! 👀 At the 5th kilometer, you’ll be able to admire the Castel dell’Ovo 🏰. You will continue along the Mediterranean to reach the port 🚤.
At the 10th kilometer, you’ll make a 180° turn and run along the sea again along the port before turning right toward Piazza Bovio. You’ll then run the Corso Umberto out-and-back ⏮️. After crossing Piazza Municipio, you’ll run through the historic city before finding the shores of the Mediterranean again 😍.
A second passage through the Laziale tunnel will precede the final straight to the finish line at Piazza Tecchio 🏁. Music groups 🎶 will enliven your race throughout the route, and three aid stations 🍽️ will allow you to refuel during your run. Bravissimo !
The Naples half marathon can also be run as a relay by two people and follows strictly the same course as the solo half marathon. Relay 1 is 10 km and relay 2 offers 11.097 km. An ideal opportunity to share the effort ! 🤝
