SwimRun South Coast Landes 2027

Three towns, two days, five races and one deep-rooted belief: in the Landes, sport is practiced to the rhythm of the ocean 🌊. In early May, the Swimrun South Coast Landes brings its competitors together between Soorts-Hossegor, Capbreton and Seignosse, three towns in the south of the Landes that share lake, canal and the Atlantic for a weekend 🗓️. Pairs format, multiple distances, a sporting funfair atmosphere: the Landes event ticks every box without ever feeling the same from one race to the next ✅.

Back in 2019, the event laid its first markers with a handful of formats and a curious crowd eager to try this discipline that was still little known in France 🇫🇷. The entry-level format at the time, dubbed "the Furtive", has since given way to "the Reassuring", renamed to better convey its gentle introductory purpose 🏊‍♀️. Some regulars like to talk about their own progression over these distances: arriving through the side door as a family on this beginner course, then a few editions later heading out to face the ocean on "the Wild", a journey that sums up the philosophy of the Landes meet-up quite well 🌊.

The playground is like no other on the French calendar 🫣. Between the pine forest that borders Lake Hossegor, the dune beaches swept by the Atlantic swell and the Port of Capbreton known to every sailor on the coast, the organizers juggle radically different environments in a single day of competition 📍. The Hossegor Canal, navigable at high tide, serves as a learning ground for the most accessible formats, while the ocean lays down the law for the most seasoned competitors, with swells that can reach 1.50 m on the long-distance courses ⛵.

They don’t do things by halves, with seven formats on offer! "The Ambitious" kicks things off with 40 km split into 7 swim sections totaling 7 km and 7 run sections totaling 33 km; what’s more, since 2026 it has carried the ÖTILLÖ Merit Race label! This recognition allows teams to earn points toward the world ranking and the road to the Swimrun World Championship 🏆. The same distance is also available as a relay via the "Multi Team Challenge": three pairs take turns over three separate legs—16 km for the first with 2.4 km of swimming and 13.6 km of running, 12.6 km for the second with 1.2 km of swimming and 11.4 km of running, then 13 km for the last with 3 km of swimming and 10 km of running 🔄.

The next day then takes over with "the Daring", 20 km split into 6 swim sections totaling 3.7 km and 6 running sections totaling 16 km, then "the Wild", 10 km over 4 swim sections totaling 2.9 km and 3 running sections totaling 7.1 km 🏃‍♀️. Next come "the Reassuring", 5 km contested entirely on the lake and the canal over 3 swim sections totaling 1.5 km and 3 running sections totaling 3.5 km, then "the Dilettante", the most convivial format with 2.5 km split into 2 swim sections totaling 500 m and 2 running sections totaling 2 km ⭐️. Two children’s races round out the program: 1.6 km each, with a single swim section of 400 m and a single run section of 1.2 km, open respectively to 8–9-year-olds and 10–11-year-olds 👦. With that, there’s no reason not to find a race you like! 🤓

At this event, around 1,200 participants converge each year on Parc Rosny in Hossegor, where an activity village runs at full tilt all weekend: a zip line, tree-top adventure courses, climbing walls, sports treatments and an evening concert turn the finish into a real people’s celebration 🎪. The organization also claims an environmental commitment displayed since the event was created, with 1% of the amount of each entry fee donated to local associations for environmental protection, an approach that also relies on partners exclusively from the Landes ♻️.

Living on Landes time is never far from surfing, golf or a sunset shared with friends 🌄. Competitors coming from afar often take advantage of the weekend to extend their stay at the renowned surf spots of Seignosse, between two walks along the Silver Coast or a visit to the Capbreton fishing port 🏄. Local gastronomy, driven by duck and ocean products, naturally completes the picture of a sporting stay that goes well beyond the bounds of the competition 🏅.
