The World Trail Majors take you on a wild epic journey to the four corners of the globe. This elite circuit, born from the desire to preserve the soul and authenticity of outdoor running, brings together the most legendary and independent events on the planet. From the tropical humidity of Hong Kong to the peaks of Japan, via the technical trails of Madeira or the spectacular ridgelines of South Africa, every bib is a promise of escape. Whether you’re an ultra-trail purist or a fan of steep paths, we’re taking you to discover an extraordinary calendar 👇.
The World Trail Majors are a unique trail circuit ⭐️. These extraordinary races decided to unite to create a global circuit, on the same level as the UTMB World Series or the Golden Trail World Series🏔️. Here, the aim is to celebrate the uniqueness of each trail and ultra-trail 😍. It’s a circuit that takes you traveling across continents with a strong identity: respect for the environment and historical heritage comes before everything else ☝️. We’re not talking about simple competitions, but true monuments where the first pages of the sport were written by pioneers—and it’s precisely this authenticity that attracts more than 23,000 runners from all over the world every year 🌍.
Taking part in this adventure first means treating yourself to total geographical diversity, since the circuit spans 4 continents and 10 different countries, guaranteeing a radical change of scenery with every bib, whether you’re in the desert or on a volcano. 🌋 Beyond that escape, you’ll be joining historic events that “sowed the first seeds” of trail running, for a rich human experience within a global community speaking 6 different languages 🤝. It’s also a chance to take on a monumental challenge with a total of 1,048 km across all the flagship races—an ultimate endurance test that starts as early as January. 📈 The calendar actually opens in the heat of China 🇨🇳 with the Anta Guanjun Hong Kong 100 and its 100 km between beaches and skyline, before heading to Arizona in the United States 🇺🇸 in February for the Black Canyon Ultras in Kevin Mayer, a 100 km route on the highly runnable but formidable Arizona Trail 🌵.
In March, the pressure rises in Spain 🇪🇸 with the legendary Transgrancanaria in Las Palmas, a serious beast of 126 km across the landscapes of the Canary Islands, while April offers a royal doubleheader with the Mt.FUJI 100 in Japan and its 167 km (100 miles) around the sacred volcano in Fujiyoshida 🇯🇵. Right after that, Portugal 🇵🇹 welcomes us to the MIUT - Madeira Island Ultra-Trail in Funchal, a technical route of 118 km with steep paths that make even the toughest thighs pay 💥. For those who prefer greenery, the United Kingdom 🇬🇧 reveals in June the South Downs Way 100 between Winchester and Eastbourne, a 161 km ride along the chalk cliffs, before crossing the Atlantic in July for the Quebec Mega Trail in Beaupré in Canada 🇨🇦, a demanding route of 135 km in the heart of the wild forest.
The end of the season is just as intense with the Vietnam Mountain Marathon in September in Sapa, offering 100 km amid terraced rice fields, then a hop to Australia in November for the Grampians Peaks Trail 100 Miler in Halls Gap, an ultra-trail of 162 km on spectacular rocky ridgelines 🇦🇺. The grand finale takes place in South Africa with the RMB Ultra-Trail Cape Town in Cape Town, a 100 km race with a legendary section on the slopes of Table Mountain. 🇿🇦 Once you cross the finish line, the fun continues: whether it’s savoring a Poncha in Madeira 🍷, riding the cable car up Table Mountain, or strolling through the markets of Vietnam, each stop is an invitation to discover protected ecosystems and vibrant cultures 📸. But don’t worry—if ultras scare you, the World Trail Majors Short Series is here for you! 🫶 It offers adapted distances, allowing everyone to progress without committing to endless distances 😩.
The World Trail Majors circuit rewards its athletes in several ways 👁️. For the elite, the circuit provides specific prize awards that recognize intense training and top-level performances 🚀. It’s the ultimate carrot for pros coming to test themselves against the world’s best 🌍. Next, there’s the annual ranking 📈. If you’re the fiercely competitive type, every race you take part in contributes to an annual ranking. It’s the Holy Grail for those who want to see their name climb the global hierarchy as the season unfolds 📆. For runners who do only one race per year, the circuit keeps results over several years 🔄. This makes it possible to establish a permanent ranking, rewarding consistency and long-term passion ⏳. What you need to remember is that the sum of the two best results would be taken into account for the World Trail Majors ranking 🏅. On top of that, the scoring aligns with the reliable ITRA points system 👏. But beyond points and prizes, the reward is adding one of these “races of a lifetime” to your record. The slogan is clear: crossing the finish line of one of these legendary events is a reward in itself—one that goes far beyond simple competition 🏆.
World Trail Majors is much more than a ranking—it’s the perfect excuse to see the world and come back with your head full of memories! 🌟
